Someone I work with is looking for a reasonably priced vehicle under $3k that is a wagon or suv. I found this 9-2X: http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/4675254976.html

He isn't looking to do any crazy driving mileage wise. Is this too high of mileage even if its well taken care of? Worth throwing a $2k offer at them and see what happens?

I would consider that. I always liked the look of those better then the same Subi. I would ask and see what the deal is with the motor. Has it had it replaced and or the head gaskets replaced. In short a service history would seal the deal for me. Even with out it I would still be interested.

It's not turbo so it should be alright. Looks like it's bumped into a couple things. If it's gone that many miles it should take a few more.

I would check the maintenance just like any other cheap high mileage car. Timing belt should have been replaced a couple of times already as well as trans fluid changed several times. Other than that I would just check the usual suspension bushings, cooling system, and inspect the rust levels.

I think its a good sign that there are a few chips and small bumps on the car because it means the car was driven and used daily. Fresh paint and clean panels would make me think it had been wrecked and rebuilt.

EDIT: Those NA 2.5 motors are dirt cheap and easy to swap out if he needs a replacement.
