Im taking my wagon because its the simplest vehicle i own, load the family, firearms and whatever food fits. Strap a lockable toolbox on the roof rack with basic handtools and a few spares. Pull any good extra batteries i have (depends on the cause of the mass exodus) too use as barter or jumpers to clear stuck vehicles.
I can and have ridden my bike to the beach, so this is too easy for me. I'm sure one of my 4 vehicles could get me the 10 miles, if not the whole family can hop on our bicycles and get there withing the hour.
F350 to the beach ~1 mile, find the best maintained sailboat over 40 foot that will blue water with desalt and bring the 200 gallons of gas that I have with me, ~5000 12 gauge shells from when I shot clay and then wait for this whole thing to blow over.
I see issues with using a fire truck to hold diesel fuel for a long distance. Please explain your way out

What is the fantastical world where you get text messages with no signal?? ;-)
Load up the Explorer with bolt cutters, crow bar, sledge hammer (basically all large scale force multipliers) and head directly to nearest bank distribution center. Break in and grab keys to the armored truck of my choosing.
Head to sporting goods store (guns, ammo, short wave radio, water purifiers, and general camping stuff like sleeping bags), supermarket (non-perishable foods, water, toiletries, propane, batteries, and cases and cases of the highest proof alcohol they’ve got ), and Harbor Freight (siphoning equipment, gas cans, winches, road working tools, tarps, ropes, duct tape,…heck, everything is 100% off right, load up the truck!).
During all three stops, consider not only my needs but grab stuff that would be good for bartering (see alcohol above).
Does Lake Michigan count as a coastline? Because if so, I can make it there on my riding mower in time. IF not...........
I strip the interior from the truck (why? Just because that's how ALL ZA builds start), mount the Genny in hte bed (neer know what you'll need to power up, be usedful for gas pumps), all 5 of my 5 gallon cans and head east. Since the east will be anarchy central, I'll have mounted a shotgun/AR rack on the floor between the seats and plenty of food/water for a few days.

Ok so, im not headed to port canaveral. Mexico is going to be closest for me. I still won't need gas, but i'll need supplies. Dependent on human life, i may beat cheeks out of town first. Too many ne'er do wells looking to rob a motherberkeleyer. If its desolate enough, run up 192 to machine gun America. Bolt cutters/battery op sawzall to let myself in, m60 or whatever laying around to let myself back out. If its too crowded, bail. This is the gunshine state, last thing i need is to stare down florida man with a kalishnikov.
Stop somewhere along the way for some dry goods, and to fuel up. Get as much spare fuel on board as i can. Rural stores, especially as i get towards the gulf, will have cans. Load up what thr corolla can carry, and the nissan (both cars will make it, might as well take two for cargo.) Haul asd to tampa. Find a boat that will cross the gulf, set my compass due west. Sail when i can, motor when i cant, straight to mexico.
I would be on the bike, guess I need to buy a crossbow.
Load Samurai with 72 hour go bag, fuel transfer pump, case of freeze dried food, 12 gallons of water, 4 - 6 gallon gas cans on roof rack, small camp bag with stove and cook supplies, 4 man tent, sleeping bag, all of which are in my shop, and hit the road. Stop at 1st gas station to fill cans and Samurai, that gives me 900 miles range.
If I can go to the east coast, skip all the above and drive 15 miles east.
In reply to Appleseed:
I already have those on and ready to go.
800 miles to nearest coast, 85 gallons in Sampson at 11mpg means one full tank of Diesel, load up my plentiful supply of camping gear, weapons, water and food, head east, towing the MGB behind, because it wont matter and I can. I do this trip every year heading to the Mitty.
I might even bring the Mrs.

An FDNY pumper has a 500gal water tank. Unscrew the drain from the bottom empty it and run a line from the airbrakes to the tank and let it run to dry any remaining air while I enjoy what will probably be the last pizza I see as I leave civilization. Once it's good and dry I can hit work to top off the fuel tank and fill up the now dry water tank and snag some hose and shut off valve to make transferring fuel easier. Guessing about 4mpg and being careful not to spill or idle excessively I should have a range of 2500+ miles which should get me almost anywhere I will need to go no matter how scarce fuel becomes. I will have the added bonus of a truck full of tools and equipment.

I could walk to the beach, but since I have to take a vehicle, I suppose I'll ride a bike. The beach is about 2 miles from the house.

You are in a life threatening situation and you're gonna rely on harbor freight... you died

Read further down. We changed that.
I didn't realise so many grm'ers were so close to the ocean. When you live that close do you spend much time there or just kind of forget it's there? I've always lived in the heart of corn country.

I hate the beach. I've been within smelling distance since I was born. I haven't been to one for recreation in 10+ years.

I love the beach and used to go regularly year round. It's one of the few things I miss having left Long Island.
I would probably put on some big boots, grab a respirator and some goggles and go check out the big ass crater. I probably die, but hopefully not until after I make some crater angels in the ash & dust.
