Holy Smokes ZR-1 for $13 000

Prices for original ZR-1's seem to be reaching "affordable" levels:

I wonder if they are that much better than an LT1 C4? Anyone have experience to share?

I'd certainly take one over a normal C4!. Of course, all I really know about them is they have a DOHC 5.7L assembled by Mercury Marine.

I think id be scared. I dont like corvettes at all though. The only C$ i wouldnt mind is the blue and white LT4 one, those are pretty cool.

yeah, lotus developed the LT5

i'd take it for 13k, or rather buy one in the 20k range with half the miles. corvettes have a pretty relaible depreciation curve, they go down, hit rock bottom at 20-25 years old, and then shoot back up.

One just went on EBay for ~$15k. Yes, they're pretty rare. The normally accepted price range for them is $20k-$30k. I might have to stuff one in my garage...

My father is always on the lookout for a black on black 94/95 for under $25K. One thing to remember is that the LT5 is... I don't want to say "delicate", but more tempermental. And since people who were used to driving SBC equipped vehicles bought them, alot of them didn't realize the extra attention to maintain it that was required.

I think so. I have to think that a Z1 bought at less than $20K will do nothing but go up in coming years / decades. Look at what C3 L88's are doing right now. Give Barrett another 20 years and that will be ZR1's.

I once heard on the internets that some of the ZR1 specific engine parts can be quite hard to obtain. But I may be wrong.

I drove one in a simulator and it was extremely difficult to go through a corner at any substantial speed and come out facing the right direction. Are these cars really like that?

Speaking of budget supercars, in the past week I have seen some great deals on Porsche 911 Turbos--including one that looks decent for $19k!

I think a $13k ZR1 would be an excellent investment.

I've autocrossed against one a few times, and exiting corners backwards does not seem to be a problem.

You should ask the Doc next time you see him. He had Condies Black Zr1 for a weekend back in the day. The C4 handled better, ZR1 adds width and weight. Great highway car, not so great autocross car.

Guimont told me there was a guy running the 1 lap a few years back in a bone stock ZR1 with 120,000 trouble free miles on it!
