Timing chain. V belt driven water pump. Looks rear wheel drive setup, with the water pump that long.
Doesn't look Honda to me.
Doesn't look anything like a L series Datsun, or it's followup.
Toyota 20r etc had the 8mm bolt from the head to the top of the timing cove inside the engine.
Mazda 2.6 is my wild guess, based on the valve cover as much as anything.

I'm fairly certain the last photo shows the Mazda "lowercase m inside a circle" logo they used in the early/mid seventies on the side of the block. I don't know Mazda engines very well, but it sure looks like every B2000/B2200/Ford Courier engine I've seen, for whatever that's worth. I think they are called VB or VC.
Pretty sure this is the valve cover for that engine. Pretty sure I have worked on one. Can I remember what it is... hell no.
