My dd civic is developing a rod knock and is burning oil at higher rpms, which I believe is leaky valve stem seals. So I need to have an engine rebuilt. It would not be built to any specific class rules, I'm mainly just looking for a more powerful stock engine. Ideally the compression would be upped a little, a mild cam, and I really want a big bore (77-78 mm from stock 75)

Going to a big bore would require the block to be sleeved. In my research Darton is the only option for sleeves for d16 engines. Luckily their machining operations are 20 minutes away. While they are probably the best for this application I realize they are probably very expensive, does anyone have any recomendations on a shop that can perform what I'm looking for with good quality and a reasonable price (appx. $2000 for assembled short block).

I watched my buddy pay out big bucks for a professionally-built motor for his Honda Challenge car. His take on it is that nobody can seem to build a Honda engine better than Honda. He has since gone back to running factory engines.

Boring a Honda is a huge, expensive, PITA. Throw compression at that motor and be happy.

89 Integra pistons in an otherwise stock D16A6 will net you 11.1:1 CR, and is good for 130 HP +/-.

If no damage, do what dave said. Rebuild the bottom end to stock, cept pistons.. Cam Maybe.. I doubt you'll see gains with the cam...

tyler H is right, noone builds them like the factory.
