The hosts made the comment that they originally built their beater Camaro with the intent of going 10s for 10 grand. Finnigan walks onscreen and bets them it won't go 10s.   I laughed.  How fast do you think some of our forum participants could go on a $10K budget?

With no class restrictions? I’m sure the Nelson’s could find a discarded rail & build it up for $10k. I’d think they’d get deep into 200+ MPH trap speeds, so what ET range would that be...maybe the 6’s?

Give me 10k and i'll show you a low 8 second datsun or wartburg.  I'm not in a position to spend 10k on a car.  I am, however, in a position to spend 2k on 5 cars over the course of 8 years.

when you start talking under the 10 mark you need to start making exponentially more power to go slightly faster.

I could go 10s for well under $5k.

If it wasn't a motorcycle, it would actually involve work.

If it had to pass NHRA Tech, it would be more difficult.

If you wanted it to look good to anyone but my warped sense of aesthetics, all bets are off.

When a semi-junkyard 6.0 with big turbos will get 800+ hp?

Getting in the 10's is "easy" but staying there is maybe not so much.

I spoke about this in the cheap and fast thread, but you can go 8's in the quarter for 8 grand. That's a "new" car purchase, motor, trans, turbo, etc...

Once you hit 8.50, everything goes up in price drastically to stay "legal".

You don't even need a V8 to go 10s for 10k. A 4g63 will do it all day.

You'll need to log in to post.
