Just the best snow tires ever!
my first experience with them was on my 70 1800E, in northern NJ, during the early/mid 80s
So back to my own question... I've used the 09, the 10, the "Q", and I now have a set of the 4s. How many different Nokia/Nokian Hakkapeliitta tyres have you used?????
None, I have stuck with Blizzaks, starting with the WS15.
Can't beat four snow tires regardless of brand.

nope.... just like to have the best tire I can under me
depending on tire size, you can have as little as 2-3 square foot of contact patch for a 2000# projectile.

I've used the 1996, 01, and 03's. They are a better snow tire than blizzaks, but I don't think they are a better ice tire IMHO
I use Nordmans, they're outstanding diggers.
I switched up to Continental Extreme Winters this past year, when I decided to go back to 14's for the snow. I was quite impressed with their ability to handle the long periods of dry and redonkulous snow dumps the Philly area had.
Priced really well too.
I recently bought hankook iPikes. They supposedly licensed the Nokian tread pattern.
before that, I had the dunlop wintersport M3's

OK, so you have officially bummed me out making me think of winter driving!
I do like my blizzacks and I do make a point of tossing them every other year (15k is all I ask of a set) cause I think that the magic wears out. I think of them as winter R compounds and they got me thorugh 13 years of driving a Miata in the winter. Actually enjoyed driving in the snow most of the time.
If the Hakapellitas are actually abetter tire, then I am missing out on some fun.
The all-season radial heralded the death of the "snow tire" back in what, the 70's? Last car I owned that I ran snow tires on was a '76 Olds Cutlass Supreme. What a barge that was, and boy, did it need snow tires.
I should add that here in central VA, we rarely get accumulating snow, although last winter was an exception. Some of you guys up in the frozen north might still need snow tires, but they'd be useless to me.
Haka-hakkas, 05s,08s, 09s, and WR are on my list. As to being the best, back in the 70's, yes.
I got a pair of Nokians on some wheels I purchased, the other two wheels had Blizzacks. All 4 were at the end of thier life so I really can't say which was better. With the last car I bought the dealer threw in a set of alloy wheels and new Goodyear snows, they are not that great and I will not be getting those as replacements.
I had Nokian Hakka-something-or-anothers on my STI a few years back. Better than Blizzaks, by a margin IMHO.
Lemme say it this way:
If I were ever to rob a bank, I'd do it during a blizzard and use that car with those tires for the getaway. Nothing more capable in the city of Detroit, 'cept maybe a snowmobile.

That's the back tire isn't it? I hope so.
I had those same tires on my Crown Vic. I think AussieSMG is still using them.
They were the best winter tire for the money.
Good thing I moved to the land of no snow. I love it down here!
The Wife's car has been on Dunlop Graspics since we bought it. I used Goodyear Ultra Ice on my Escort Blizzaks I bought from Ice racer on my Cavalier. My favorites are the Dunlops, but it could be that the car is heavy and big enough to be unstopable in the snow. They also seem to wear like iron. The Blizzaks are a close second but the car is kinda low and gets stuck in some of the deeper snow. The GoodYears wore out to fast for someone that does alot of driving. Some winters I'd need to replace them halfway through

As snow is still slippery even in modern times, snow tires are still just as important in their element as race tires are in their own. In fact, they're required in Quebec. "All season" simply means "compromise tire that doesn't really excel at anything". You get indifferent traction all year round. When I lived in Canada, I had two sets of tires for everything and had much better traction everywhere because of it. Here in the Colorado desert, I have a set of snow tires for the Jeep as it's the vehicle that does ski and snowshoe duty. Unfortunately not Nokians.
I've always considered the Blizzak an ice tire. "Winter R compound" is a good way to look at it, as they rely on their rubber compound for grip. Snow's different stuff though. The Nokians (I've run a couple of sets of the 1) are much better snow tires and also last a whole lot longer. My parents run them on their Subaru, and like Tom said that setup bows to nothing but a snowmobile.
