I'm not very tech savvy, so help me here... Just bought a '13 G37. The one option it doesn't have is the Navigation package. That means no Bluetooth audio streaming capability, but it does have Bluetooth for phone calls. It also doesn't have a 3.5mm aux plug, surprisingly. It does have one USB port in the center console. I usually just listen to Sirius/XM radio anyway, but there's one podcast I listen to every week. I know I can buy a USB to 3.5mm adapter to plug into my phone, but before I do, are there other options? I Googled USB to Bluetooth adapters and found tons of them, but how would it work/interfere with the factory Bluetooth for phone calls?
Edit: OOPs, I mis-read. I thought you had a 3.5mm.
My Prius has BT to do calls only (not play music) but does have a 3.5mm jack for music.
So, you know you could achieve phone audio to radio with a cable, like so...
If you want to eliminate the clutter of the cable, you could buy a 3.5mm bluetooth adapter like such to achieve the same but w/o a real cable.
A 3.5mm bluetooth adapter like that could be bought for $5-$25 dollars on Amazon.
Personally, I use the cable version like shown in the first picture.
What if you have an old school car with no bluetooth, aux in, or usb? The car has the oem AM/FM, 6-disk CD, and tape player, but what I really want is to have nice relatively seamless bluetooth streaming. I'd like to keep the factory head unit too because it functions well and fits the look of the interior.

You can use the cord you use to charge to plug the phone into the USB port, the select the USB port in the source menu on the radio. Think of it as an aux plug that also charges your phone.
Don’t you have a teenager to figure this out?
I fully support your listening to that one podcast!! If anyone else wants to listen:

That is one of the most annoying things that car makers have been doing recently. All the radios and everything are there, it's just a tiny bit of software to take it from being a phone-only thing to full functionality.
To answer the question, though: Does the factory radio have any sort of "aux" functionality at all? Like if you pulled the radio out of the dash, would you be able to get to an RCA plug for input on the back? If so, I just saw this: https://www.nvx.com/xubt3-universal-bluetooth-controller-knob/ today.
If you don't have that, then your only option other than head unit replacement would be an FM transmitter. I've had varying success with those, but they do make some that directly connect to the antenna cable instead of just broadcasting. I would think that would get a better signal.

To answer Freetors... I use a cassette tape with an aux cable like this

to link my music thru the original car stereo in my Datsun...
Sorry I’m no help with the original question...
I actually have one in my car already... and the sound quality sucks royally. Which is why I wanted to cut out the middle man. Maybe other brands are better or something, I really don't know, but it's not a great solution.

It sounds like you need this:
https://gromaudio.com/store/bt3_adapters/nissan_infiniti_aux-in_mp3_bluetooth_ipod_iphone_adapter_-_sat_emulation.html
Basically this hooks up to the satellite radio port on the back of the factory stereo. You would ignore the factory bluetooth completely, set the stereo to CAT/SAT and hook up to this for music streaming and handsfree calling.
Installation: https://gromaudio.com/installs/infiniti_g37_without_nav_2012__grom-bt3_bluetooth_hands_free_and_a2dp_car_kit_installation.html
Red_stapler has the best solution, but I can tell you that I've had really good luck with these:
Amazon Bluetooth fm modulator
I have two of the older models to use in the 05 town & countries and they're great. They're the best fm mod I've ever used, and for the price it may be worth the gamble for you.
iSimple to the rescue. I had very good success with their plug-and-play solutions in a 2004 Suburban with factory Bose.
I don't have anywhere near the skills to pull the head unit and don't want to mess with that. I was hoping for something to plug into the USB port in the center console (under the armrest). Just wanted to see if there was a plug and play adapter that would avoid having a wire sticking out of the armrest and through the car. Not a big deal if there isn't, I'll just use the USB charger and tuck the cord away when I'm not using it.
And yes, I highly endorse the podcast Sonic mentioned. Everyone Racers. Check it out. All about low buck racing...GRM staffers have even made a guest appearance on the show.
The question is whether it would steam music over USB, or if it's looking for files to play. If it's looking for files, then having some sort of usb to Bluetooth adapter won't help you since you're not streaming audio. In that case, you'll have to use an fm modulator setup like I linked to.
If you can steam audio over your USB connection, there's a very small chance the stereo would work with a USB Bluetooth adapter. I wouldn't bank on it, since that would require the radio's computer to know what to do with that and recognise the adapter..
Without knowing anything specifically about the Nissan setup, Your choices from are:
*New head unit
*Adapter that makes it work with satellite/cd changer input
*Bluetooth fm modulator
*Copy files to USB stick and use the stereo to play them.
I'll plug the USB port into my phone and see what happens. If it's looking for files on my phone, they won't be there, as I play it right from the ShoutEngine website.
If it doesn't work, plan B. It's a personal thing, but I hate aftermarket head units, so that's totally out. I use a different phone (my work cell) for streaming the podcast then I use for personal use. My personal cell is linked to the factory Bluetooth in the car. The USB Bluetooth adapter wouldn't interfere with that since I'd pair it with a different phone, right? What would happen if I was listening to the podcast through the Bluetooth adapter on my work phone, but then someone tried to call me on my personal phone?
Would this work, since it'll allow me to plug my 3.5mm cord into this adapter and the other end into my phone, or would it still look for files?
UBS to 3.5mm adapter

UBS to 3.5mm adapter
Probably not. That's designed to be a sound card in a computer.
Have you considered locating a factory stereo with Nav to replace you current one?
The wiring is probably already there, so it would be a plug & play install, and would maintain the factory appearance, controls, and functions.

It'd work normally, cause the bt stream would be getting to the head unit via FM, so your personal phone ringing would interrupt podcast the same way as if you were just listening to a radio station.
Copied from G37 forum:
Only iphones, Ipods and USB Memory sticks work in the USB port. I believe only much older versions of Android will work as a usb drive.
Your only other option if you do not have bluetooth streaming is this
Amazon.com: ViseeO Tune2air WMA1000: Cell Phones & Accessories
It's been talked about here before and seems that it will do the job. It's a bit pricey but you will be able to stream music from anything with Bluetooth.
Yes, sadly the more I look into this, the more I'm realizing that there really isn't a good solution. I have an Android phone, and a very old technology one at that...I'm not a tech guy, I don't even text. I'm reading that that ViseeO Tune2air is hit or miss on if it even works or not, some people say it does and some say it doesn't. I'll figure out how to put the podcast on a USB stick...or more likely I'll just drive my wife's minivan, as it has a 3.5mm port. Why Nissan left it out of the G37 is mind boggling.

Thirty bucks and you've got Bluetooth media streaming. My wife's car has one and it works pretty well.

Does it interfere with the factory Bluetooth for calls? So if I'm using that and then get a phone call, will it come through this device or the car's factory Bluetooth?

In reply to Klayfish :
You can tell your phone to use the Anker as media only and the car as phone only. Then phone calls go through like they do now and you'll just tune in to whatever radio station to get Bluetooth media.
