Assuming you have a front engine car I would use the big positive wire to the starter.
What car is it?
BMWs have a fat battery wire going all the way to the engine bay. Use a relay.

assuming it's wired similar to stock: run it to the starter solenoid, where the power for the rest of the car comes from.
Run a decent sized wire from the battery to the engine bay. Install a distribution block so you can pull power for anything you want off the block. Don't forget to install fuses on everything. If you want to be slick, add another distribution block for switched power using a relay and signal from the ignition.
How many amps does it pull?
You can also use the alternator wire as a convenient power junction if the starter is hard to get at, assuming it's not a "smart" alternator.
