In an effort to avoid this:
I need some new tires for the Dakota. It will mainly see highway miles, but will tow a trailer, pickup mulch/dirt/gravel, and the occasional "drag this car out of a field" . . . you know, truck stuff.
Pepboys has their Buy 3 Get 1 special going on and Coopers look pretty attractive price wise. I can't decide on HT or AT.
Thoughts . . . Suggestions?
Got a new set of coopers ht on the excursion. Huge improvement in noise, braking, and better mpg so far. They are great towing too.

Excavation company I used to work with ran Cooper AT3s on their work trucks and they seemed to work well for the things you mentioned. Haven’t ran the HTs.
Cooper AT3s. I run them on the ZJ and they're great. Quiet and tame on the road but air them down a little and mud traction is surprisingly good. At normal pressure they tow great too.

The set of Cooper AT3 4s I put on my Tacoma have been fantastic, albeit in almost 100% winter driving since they went on. I’ve driven on a lot of good snow tires and I’d say these are 95% as good as studless tires. They’ve been quiet so far too and haven’t affected gas mileage.
We put AT3s on the one van and Sts on another van. The AT3 wore out after 6 years. The ST went for 11 years and had more miles driven on them.
Was fairly disapointed in the At3s

If you live in area that gets snow the copper ATWs might be worth looking at too.
In reply to 80sFast :
We rarely get snow here in the midlands of SC. When we do, it all shuts down.
All I have to say is I feel your pain. Tried saving myself 30 minutes of time unloading the truck onto the trailer. 3 hours later...
HTs can do everything you want except perhaps "drag this car out of a field" if the field is muddy. ATs give you a fighting chance at not getting stuck in mud, HTs, not so much.
I go AT just be mindful of noise. Some are way better than others.
I am using the Cooper Discover AT/3.
They're pretty dang good. They aren't super aggressive, so they don't make a ton of noise on the road or dig into the sand too badly when I'm on the beach.
