check out that battery! 6 V?

That's right.

4 cells would be 8v. Battery cells are (nominally) 2 volts each.
I see 3 cells. Have taken a blow to the head recently? JK.
I suggest looking into the Antique Auto Club of America to try to sell it. More people there that would appreciate what it is, besides us that is. There is even a Hudson Forum.
Man, that thing is so cool! Turbo Jeep 4.0, 5 speed, modern springs/shocks and a paint job would make that thing unspeakably pimp.
BTW, about the specialness of this chassis, one unique feature nobody mentioned is the way the frame rails go around the rear wheels. Those aren't skirts in the rear, they're an integral part of the structure.

I thought they were 1.5

And wasn't it a flathead I6?
In reply to Rad_Capz:
Positive ground, too.
I had one where the owner connected it up negative-ground, because it never occurred to him that there might be another way.
Everything worked, but the ignition was kinda weak.

Yep, and up to 220 hp from the factory.
That looks pretty reasonable for sitting 50+ years! I've seen way worse than that restored to whatever standard you want. I'm rather surprised no one's told you to fix the mechanicals and leave the body as found yet.
Could you sticker it on the '59 plates and leave them looking how they are? Would be a good way to foil speed cameras too!
I wonder what would cause someone to park a then-5-year-old luxury car?
Looks restorable to me. Then again I'm from Michigan. We say that about anything that has rust holes less than 12" around. And this thing doesn't have any holes....looks rather complete too.

Well it turned out to actually be a 53 not a 54 as we were told. As soon as I listed it on Ebay I recieved a half dozen messages from those more knowledgable than I that it was a 53 according to the VIN. For anyone interested I've listed the car on Ebay starting at 1,000.00 with lots more pics.
I did clean out the trunk and interior today and found the floors and trunk to be in surprisingly good shape.
