Not long ago I was shopping for tires for my daily which, oem, comes with 255/45/19. My other car has 235/45/17. I found that I had a lot more readily available choices in that. Sure I could find like expensive Pirelli P Zeros for the 1st car, for the 2nd places were stocking like Kumho Ecstas for example. For the first car I would have to order stuff online and wait for most options.

So i'm curious... what wheel, of any size, has what you think as the best availability of "summer" tires?

probably 17 would be my guess.... but it will depend on what size. I can find crap loads for 225/45, but nothing for 225/40

What's the outer diameter of the tire? Because that's a factor. Lots of 29" OD tires on big rims, not so many 23" tires that fit a 19".

Tire Rack lists 36 tires in the 255/45-19 size, BTW.

For performance use it would have to be an 18" wheel of some width, most performance tires sold these days are for 18s.

Options by size.

Someone once told me I should get 18" Cobra wheels for my mustang because of this.

I've got a set of OEM Speedline Z06 wheels on the Camaro, 17x9.5 front 18x10.5 rear. Need to replace the front tires before I remount the wheels in the next month or so and let me tell ya, its slim pickings for anything wider than a 255 for a 17" diameter wheel. Rears are no problem, I can find anything within reason in a 295/35 18, but the fronts really limit my options. Think I'm gonna pick up an extra pair of rears to mount up front before I buy my next set of tires, as I'd prefer to get away from a staggered setup anyways.
