Personally, I don't see why everyone loves the styling so much. Seems like classic Hyundai melty organic bodywork and awkward headlamps. It looks like someone sucked on the front-end and then pulled it down into a bad characture of a person of Asian-descent. 1999 called and it wants its' styling back. I've always wondered why Hyundai didn't send it's designers back to school and this car doesn't change my opinion. Maybe I just expected too much of them in this arena.

Aside from my inconsequential ramblings on the styling, I'm rather proud of Hyundai for the hardware they blessed the car with. It's about time they offered a real performance model and they certainly didn't skimp. A big honkin' v6 a turbo 4 banger? I could think of a few Japanese companies who should grow the same hairy bits.
Styling has (and always will be) a personal taste. I like it. But I severely disliked the previous Tiburons. I love the 01-06 Elantra Sedans, hated the hatch....
But when it's got all the right pieces to make it go fast.... that is what makes it hot. I'd rather have it than any of the "We couldn't come up with anything fresh so we'll dub an old design 'retro' and hope no one catches on that we have no new idea" camaro/mustang/challenger.
Sometimes change isn't a good thing. A Friend and I were talking about new cars we would like to have for under $50000 and there were five total (the Hyundai wasn't on the list but the Challenger was). And then we looked at 10, 15 and 20 years ago and each time it seemed like the list grew.

I have posted various extensive reviews on various forums (including this one, a comparison of an NA, NC and new SI). I commend Hyundai, they make great cars that the average joe can buy. Hell, they are cheap, reliable and plentiful. An upper Hyundai will be better equipped than a lower Benz/Audi/BMW and still be cheaper. Truly highlighting the value of these cars and the fact that you are not paying for a name.

First, we are talking about the 2.0T, like I said earlier, If I was swinging for a V6 I would take the extra hit and go 370z.
Now, what is so groundbreaking about this genesis?! Absolutely NOTHING! Its touted as the next silvia?! BullE36 M3. The silvia was a class leader, it was an actual performance bargain. This is just fodder for the stupid tuner/dorifto crowd. I experienced this, I lost a year of my life in this tuner "scene". Is the car a performance bargain? Is the car groundbreaking, revolutionary? Is the car a great drivers car? No, no, no.
Im sorry, I was dissapointed with the new MX5 on various levels (mostly value). I test drove it and the two other NA miatas (which I owned at the time) and the 08 civic all back to back in one day. This car (genesis) will not even register on my radar. Well they said: with these shocks and such mods the MX5 will feel great. Yes, and with such and such mods the hyundai might actually be fast? Be a great track car? Great, now I know what to buy to make it a good car. You want a great entry level rwd sports car? The solstice and MX5 are both better cars. You want to be able to seat 4? The Rx8, now that car was groundbreaking when it came out. Love that car, great chassis, ergonomics, looks, breaks, and the engine aint that bad, sounds great. Not to mention they drop in value like a rock, you can buy a nearly new one for half the price, and they have that great warranty.
You know what would be revolutionary? A 2400lb, 1.3 liter turbo compact with some engineering invested in chassis work. Economical, enviro friendly, cheap, fast, great drivers car. Wait, wait for it...hmm porsche has the mid engine turbo diesel coming. Now that would be a revolutionary car. Or maybe that Toyobaru rwd platform that has been in the rumors. Hell the Tata cars are more impressive. This car has the magical affordable turbo 4 and rwd combo, must be great? Wrong, nothing new, special or inspiring. But it has the "potential" to make 400whp fairly easily. Well my shoes have the potential to make me fly once I "trick" them out....

Dude, you need to catch a clue. Have you even driven the car? I hate on a lot of cars, but I actually drive them before I make up my mind, and I sure as hell don't spout off like that, nobody here does. I expect to read filth like that on YouBoob comments.
Hyundai has made massive strides in all areas over the last 20 years, and the Genesis Coupe truly is a revolution. It's a 370Z/G37 for the common man and the first RWD turbo 4-seater 2-door stock in the US since the 1988 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. This car is putting the world on notice that Hyundai is able and willing to play with the big boys in any market segment.
I'm not even really a Hyundai fan, and I had a reserved opinion about this car until I saw it in real life. I'm still waiting to drive one before I make any kind of purchasing decision, but in person this car is gorgeous. It's original, fresh, and has detailing that is only seen and appreciated in person.

I commented on how great Hyundai has become, and I strongly pointed out that this car is overhyped. I first handedly admitted that my opinion is based on various professional reviews and research, including a close up of the car, not a drive. That is all. Dont get your panties in a bunch. If anyone spams anything, its you, I have been a long time member and I lurk, I dont post on every thread like you do. Not to mention my post was full of humour, which clearly eludes you. Period. Go cry a river somewhere else, I will continue this with you no longer.

I owned a hyundai of some sort from 1988 to 2005.. I started with the aweful Excel (which was not too bad once you removed the front antiroll bar and got rid of it;s terminal understeer.. and I do mean terminal) to a 1999 Tiburon 2.0
Styling is subjective.. personally I like the "melty organic" look and did not care for the second generation Tiburon that much as it seems to put on a lot of weight and lose a lot of what I liked about the original.
The genesis is very tempting.
I do disagree and agree that it is groundbreaking.. it is not groundbreaking as having a front engine, rear drive car is as old as using assembly line techniques to build cars.
I do find it unusual (and ground breaking) in that there has been VERY few cars in the US that used the front engine, rear drive formula with a turbo.. and none recently.
Like P71 said, this puts the world on notice that Hyundai can play in any field it wants and do it well.
Is it as good as the 370z? probably not. Nissan has been building that car in some form or another for almost 40 years. Same with the Mazda. the RX series has been around for a LONG time. Hyundai has proven that it learns quickly, is not afraid to take chances, and can put out a truely steller (sorry) product for not a lot of money.
Is it overhyped? Maybe. but then so was the Miata when it first came out. So is the Camaro
As for your comment about the 240sx/syllvia being a class leader.. maybe in Japan. Here in the US it was an also ran due to it's diappointing truck based engine. If not for the drifter fanbois, most of them would still be languishing forgotten.
I say take a wait and see approach. I would also test drive one before hating it. By the numbers alone, my saab should be more fun to drive than my BMW.. but honestly, I know which car I prefer to drive when I want to enjoy myself.
