Sorry Mike, but the 95-02 Cavaliers were a much better quality car than the 1st gen aveo's, and the facelift/2nd gen aveos are also garbage (my mom recently purchased an '09 with low K). Chevy has some SIGNIFICANT ground to make up on this one, as even the '07 Accent was lightyears ahead of the Aveo. I'm also curious if the turbo motor is confirmed or rumour? And that still doesn't make up for it if the quality control is not there. Hyundai is kicking it, you can't deny it (and the Veloster is downright amazing, either N/A or turbo).
Edit-
I almost bought a brand new 2010 Accent Sport model (full load). Keep in mind our model designations are different up here than down in the States.
I took it for a couple of GOOOOD long test drives... it was a fantastic car. Good power, nice handling, lots of room, comfy, and good gas mileage. The shifter/trans is "ok" (not Civic or Swift short throw amazing though) and the motor (stock) isn't a big fan of pulling to redline. It was an excellent car and I'd recommend anyone looking for a new hatch to buy one. I can only imagine what the 2012 Veloster and Accent will be like :D

Don't be a retard. I was commenting that the Sonic is a new platform, and not an Aveo as the Cobalt is also a new platform, and not a Cavalier. Turbo motor is confirmed.
I've been looking at Accents, and also heard from reputable people that the motors are lazy, and don't like to rev. I don't know if they change with a few mods. I hope so. There's an L sport, and GL sport. The GL is the full load. The L has no air, no cruise, no power windows/locks. I think the sport is the SE in the states. Cneck out the pricing between the US and Canada. The sport is the same price, but the base is about 35% more here.

As the owner of a 99 Cavalier I take offense to this. Aside from the fact that I haven't opened the hood in three years, I just turn the key and drive it, I can't imagine a more poorly constructed product. If my blender was this poorly designed I'd be up to my knees in rum and strawberry right now. It's only reedeming factors were price, and an indestrucability you'd hope to have in a car that was clearly intended for use in the third world. The fact that the Aveos made it through a long boat ride and disembarked under their own steam means they are at worst the Cavaliers equal.

I am detecting a note of sarcasm here.
BTW nice Alan Kulwicki avatar.
It has a remarkable quality I call frustrating reliabilty. With money being tight I can't see replacing it because it starts every day and gets me where I'm going, and even though I haven't opened the hood in 14 months it seems to have enough oil to function. Unfortunately it is an appliance in the truest sense of the word, as I seen refrigerators with more inviting interiors. I feel like I'm in the toaster from the KIA commercial but not as shiny. Sometimes I hope that when I get off the train I will find that the garage has caved in and flattened it, or some deperate theives with low IQs have stolen it. It's a car I wouldn't hesitate to drive cross country, or leave it there if it stopped running.
I like the Kulwicki picture too. I took several as a school project many moons ago at the championship banquet. I have nice pic of him and his dad in my garage.

I don't care if they work better or not - they are easier to maintain.
Sorry, have to disagree. Rear disc are a waste of money that requires more maintenance than drums. When they need replacing, the added complexity of the e-brake on a disc set-up adds even more espen$e.
I have pretty limited experience with cars other than my own, but the rear calipers on my Saabs are pretty simple to work on. The only drawback can be the e-brake adjusters, which can freeze up and must be screwed out and re-set when replacing pads. Stripped adjuster = Then again, I'm talking about 20-year-old parts...

I drive an 09 SE, and I totally agree that the motor is not very rev happy. All I have done with the motor is remove the intake "snorkel" from in front of the factory airbox and added a k&n drop in. The car seems have the most grunt between 4-5k rpm, then it feels like it drops off a little. I havent driven or been in any others besides my own so I dont know which other mods offer the best improvement. I feel like a lightweight flywheel would be great. I have read a few claims that the 2nd gen accent clutch and flywheel should be interchangable, but personally I have not seen any solid proof that its been done. Maybe I am not looking in the right places.
The exhaust offered through canadian dealerships sounds fantastic, but is really damn expensive. There is an aftermarket header available, I think made by megan racing, my understanding is you have to relocate some of the o2 sensors or you get CEL's.
The little motor isnt bad with the 5 speed though. I feel like it pulls better than my fiancee's tired old Focus 2.0 automatic.
Be advised that the 5 speed gearing is short, if you travel highway speeds a lot be prepared for constant 3-4k rpm driving. The auto is geared to run a lower rpm at highway speeds but I cant imagine how sluggish it must feel to drive.
