A friend is giving me a dead 928 motor for free so what is the easiest way to make it look good? I am thinking of washing it with a hose then using a sandblast cabinet but I am not sure it will fit through the door. Then I will still have to find a way to polish it. Any ideas on short cuts?
oh my god!! i want that!!

Hum, I like your sig!
Oven cleaner (not the odor free kind) does wonders to clean aluminum and get rid of corrosion. For polishing, depending on how rough it is, you might start with some steel wool or sandpaper. Other than that, a polishing kit (Eastwood has them, you probably can find them cheaper elsewhere) and a lot of time.
Hey, how'd my wife get on here?
How can you see her all the way out on the track, past my mistress?
To look good, you're gonna want it to be a common finish all over. I'd suggest having it tumbled. You could also paint it.
Also - nice ass.
Well she's purdy from the back at least.
Is that a scooter on the track?
Ask your local machine shop if they can clean the block for you. They do it all day long and it's pretty much a matter of putting it in a giant dishwasher as far as I can tell.
Or see if a local sandblaster will shoot it for you. Bring a six pack and it might be pretty darn cheap. Same goes for the machine shop actually.
... Gotta love the curves at Barber!!!

Yes, i think you should hose it down, make sure you get it completely covered, then go and hand scrub all surfaces, dont miss a spot.... oh wait, were talking about an engine...um...hmm... idk, pressure washer?
pigberkleyer.jpg hahahaha!!!
Allright boys, keep it PG13. Some people are reading this with kids and/or bosses around.
my dad did this with his garden hose, but its on a Ferrari 333sp rear wheel he got while crewing for a team, ill have to snap some pics...

To get back on the subject the more I think about it DILYSI Dave is correct. I think I will take it to the machine shop have it cleaned and then add some type of silver/alum paint. Why make a 1/2 day project into a whole weekend project?

you could try going to your local high school (if they offer a Autoshop class) and ask the shop teacher to use their sandblaster, they usually have one in the classroom. Sure it would be free and the kids learn at the same time...

I'll throw my vote in for taking it to a machine shop to be hot tanked. I did that with my BBF, and it came out looking like a fresh casting.
Good thing it looks purty sitting there on the stand, 'cause it's not going anywhere for a while...
