Oh.....That's a little one.

I know that a 356 crank is a direct fit but it looks like I have a 912 case so I will need to have 5mm machined off of the main journals. If I use the crank and don't do any piston/cylinder changes I will still be at about 1378cc and have the option to go bigger. Stock is 1192cc.

I don't have any pictures of that car but it is one of the coolest supers I have ever seen.
friedgreencorrado wrote: I neglected to complement you on that dizzy rebuild. Man, that was slick! Are there "in progress" pics anywhere?
I don't have any pictures of it during the rebuild. I had a camera with me I just got going and next thing I knew it was painted and the weights were back in. I have a few big cap 40hp distributors I still have to rebuild and I’ll take some progress pics of them.
LOL, Ill go along with the eyebrows. I was never a big fan of those. The roof rack would give me a place to put the R's on the way to the autocross...
This begs the question: does anyone know how to make one of these cars actually handle well?
I'm restoring my first car - a 72 Super - but really never liked the way it drove. Loved to look at it, was never crazy about driving it. If I could make it fun to autocross...
And for God sakes put the damn engine lid on straight. Crooked engine lids look as dumb on old beetles as they do on new civics.

FJCamper is a wealth of information on making ACVWs turn. Happy Reading and Dont be afraid to register and ask questions
A super is sort of like a 944 (the rear suspension is very similar) so aside from stiffening the chassis, updating the springs and dampers you'll likely want a set of sticky tires.

looks silly, but good for cooling on an aircooled engine.
I think I am going to do the metal work on the car the same way as KCW did on this 1951. I think it would be easier to replace the entire lower 5 inches as one piece instead of multiple patch panels. The bottom picture is the car that the rockers went on.

I know it's we but I am going to try to be even more independent with this build. I also don't want the beetle to be all raised like the burgundy one.
OMG that beetle is so hawt. You guys are really not helping the GF and i decide what we want to do as our joint project.

No sweat, dude. I guess you were just "in the zone". Only reason I asked is because it came out so pretty.

Beat me to it. Better the funny looks than sitting on the side of the road wondering how you're going to get it home.
