What do you buy to replace a Neon, Focus, and old B body station wagon? In my case, apparently the answer is:

2007 hatchback, 2.3, automatic, 136k miles. Drives nice on the highway. Enough space for hauling kids, dogs, and guitars around but definitely more "fun" than a minivan or suv.

Congrats. Good choice.

Always thought those hatchbacks were cool. Wish that body style would make a comeback.

The 6 hatch is a really versatile package. My sedan needed front wheel bearings about 130k miles, then IIRC ignition coils (3.0L) at 150k. Aside from that, it was just oil changes and tire rotations. Sold at 170k.

I had no idea there was a hatch version, had to look up photos of one with the hatch open, looks just like the sedan while shut.

Agreed, I like hatch trunks.

Tesla Model S and Kia Stinger have them.

Yeah, on these the hatch generally looks like the sedan/trunk but if you look closely the rear window angle is greater and what seems to be the trunk lid at first is shorter than the rear trunk lid version.  I like them!

Hatch version in bottom picture.

Much to my surprise, the rear doors are different. I never realized.  Making them different sure seems to forgo manufacturing efficiencies.  I really expected they were the same rear door.

Cool!  When we bought our 2008 Mazda6, we wanted a hatch, but it was too late in the model year, and none left on the lots were optioned how we wanted them.

Yeah the hatch is neat. I'm not sure why, in the mid 2000s, they sold a sedan, hatchback, and wagon at the same time. Strikes me as a very "Mazda" thing to do, like rotary engines or a 2/3 size minivan with a manual transmission.

I know they've gotta be good cars. My grandpa, the engineer who researches the heck out of everything, bought one new.

Love those! Nice choice! Love the hatch especially. Never knew the doors were different.

I nearly bought one but had a hard time finding one with a good maintenance history.

In test driving they drove so much nicer than a similar Accord or Camry in my opinion.

Those were solid cars. Shame Mazda killed off the 6.

This gen of Mazda6 is really what became the Ford Fusion.  They're good cars.

I love all generations of the Mazda6. I just bought a gen2 and really enjoy driving that car.
