So I was driving my Volvo around this morning with a huge smile on my face thinking about how much I loved it. Despite the fact it has blown struts, a mustard yellow interior, and an exhaust leak that makes it sound like something between a tractor and a beat 30 year VW. My mind then wandered to thinking about how excited I will be when my e30 is finished. It was then that it hit me, I LOVE 80'S CARS!

I still believe that for the most part the 80's was a horrible decade for cars, but there are really some gems out there. Cars that are not overburdened with technology and have real character. There are so many possibilities out there, here are some of the next additions I am already considering:

And of course, no 80's car collection would be complete without an Iroc-Z. I can picture the t-tops off, my mullet (i'd have to grow one) blowing in the wind and Scorpion playing as loud as possible, haha

Which 80's cars do the rest of you like?

The 80s into the early 90s are probably my favorites.

Really, just pick any of them that had even a modicum of sporting aspirations, and i like it.

'80s cars totally rock: 911, AE86, MR2, GTI, CRX/Civic Si, 5.0, 944, etc.

agreed. mmmmm... notch backs

add to that list the mk1 VW GTI:

and the mk2 was best as it ended... though technically in '91/'92, 'twas the same basic car from '85+. 16V goodness.

Hmm... 911, maybe. And maybe an early 80's Subaru... Unfortunately, my E30 has tarnished my real-world opinion of 80's cars. I think I'll be happy to keep them in my memories.

Great response, I am also a fan of AE86s I wish the prices were not so inflated. I remember right before the whole drift thing hit my buddy got one at a shady used car lot for $800.

MMMM...notch fox bodys are killer! Although if I bought one it would be a drop top gt with a saleen wing, obviously not for turning purposes haha

WE are entirely too far into this thread to not have the mighty GLH mentioned, thought the Daytona is close.

I got my temps in May of 1984; the very first car that I drove on the street was one of these.

In reply to CLNSC3:

I've had two-each of half of the cars in the opening post (thirdgen F-body and Merkur XR4Ti).

I just got my '85 E30 on the road this week (it's a mess, but fun).

I've actually returned to the notion that I can and will drive old cars because I like to. The fact that they are more simple (well...the german luxury stuff aside) to maintain and upgrade is a huge factor for me.

In the stable currently as current or potential future road-going vehicles are:

1985 BMW 325e
1983 Chevy 3500 Dually
1978 Chevy Malibu
1987 Toyota 4x4
1990 Mazda 323
1997 Subaru Legacy Outback

I don't care much for the Outback, but it's nice, so I keep it as a continency plan (and the A/C works...so that was nice in the summer). The 323 gets great mileage and it's almost from the '80s

I've also got the following that won't be road worthy, or at least not soon, but that I do use on occasion for off-highway purposes:

1982 Toyota Corolla Wagon (was my daily driver for ~3 years)
1983 Chevrolet 4x4
1988 Suzuki Samurai

Yeah...I suppose I do enjoy stuff from the 80's and before...

So many great cars are from the '80s! AW11, AE86, AE92's not bad , Samurai , solid-axle Hilux, 3G-5G Celica, FC RX7...this could go on forever. More than half of the cars I might ever like to own are from the '80s, there are just a few '70s and '90s+ vehicles I'd like.
