My dreams are like sitting in a field watching a long freight car go by, each car is a different dream.
I don’t remember most, sometimes I wake up drenched in sweat, sometimes aroused, a few times Trish asked “When did you learn Japanese?”
Brains are funny creatures ....
I occasionally have dreams that subjectively last for years and years. Like, grow old and retire before waking up sort of stuff (there was a video game in a Rick and Morty episode that was similar). It takes time to come back to who and where I am afterward. I always figure that the Matrix needed my processor for another simulation for a little too long.
There was a recurring dream that I had when I was a kid.
I could fly, but very slowly, and only about two feet off of the ground. I was swimming down the hallway at my grandmother's house, but there was no water. It felt very real.
I love that dream.

I dream super vivid scenes from the future. At one point after I recognized that I was doing it, I came up on the point in time dreamed and did the opposite thing from the dream. What followed was the single worst week if my life. Ever since then I've done exactly what the dreams portray.
Yes, I'm serious. I've actually freaked people out who were with me when I've said "red pickup will drive by, the neighbor's dog will bark, then the kids down the street will crash his bike" and it happened.
This used to happen a lot when I was a kid, except they they were wakeful thoughts. Kind of freaked me out and no one will believe a kid anyway so I mostly kept it to myself. Last time it happened I was driving and had a very clear image of a flash and someone getting shot in a car next to me. Checking my mirrors frequently for a while, just when I forgot, it happened, only it was someone getting shot with a camera using a flash. Still freaked me out, but a relief.
My last a little too vivid dream that got to me was one that I died. It's not important how I died, but the feeling of pure peace and comfort with no worries took weeks to shake. It was an unexpected death, I remember thinking "Oh E36 M3 this is happening right now" then the calm, all thoughts quieted. Such a strong feeling that reminding myself of all I have to live for went through my head. That was followed by joy in knowing how anyone that I have lost must feel.
I had a dream thread started 56 years later on the day of MLK I had a Dream speech. Somehow I though they would be related.

“They” say you can’t dream that you die but I distinctly recall a dream as a kid where I was in an adjacent town in a very real, very specific area and got caught in a flood and drowned. I remember seeing (and feeling) my body floating.
Since we’re off of car dreams per se: the only recurring dream I remember having was a friend and I riding the back of a fire truck in a parade and he looked at me while reaching into his mouth and pulled out his teeth kind of like a cartoon character might except these were his real teeth with bloody, dripping gums etc. Now that I type this, it seems creepier than ever.
I had a dream that Amazon was delivering small items in cats. Yes, live cats. The idea was that it would poop out the item and you would get a free cat to adopt. It was actually going well, until people started cutting their stuff out of the cats or winding up with 25 cats a week instead of 25 cardboard boxes.
So I had a dream last night I was in a sit-com as the wisecracking sidekick of Brook Shields. So after the scene we were filming she came over and sat really close to me and said she really likes working with me. I'm talking sitting really close. So I told her I love you to. Then, since I'm married in real life, I added, "as a friend". She got all pissed off and walked away in a huff. I woke up thinking "wtf, women are incomprehensible".
I'm not making this up.
I once had a dream that I bought an Evo and stored it on my parent's porch (somehow, definitely not possible.) and whenever I woke up I had to ask my wife to make sure I hadn't actually bought an Evo and forgotten about it till then.

They say you can't read in a dream, either. When I dream I recognize that I'm dreaming when the letters are jibberish and I focus on them and turn them into English.
I can also "change scenes" so if there's a dream that's something I don't want to deal with (usually having to go back into the military despite all the damage they did to me) I will think of something else I'd rather dream and it changes. Usually to car stuff.
I'm worried about Dorian. I keep dreaming of my Grandpa, who lives in Titusville and never evacuates.
In my dreams I speak fluent French, more than once I read half way through some instructions before I realized i was reading French then stopped to read the rest in English.

There are only two possibilities: "They" are wrong about dying in a dream or I've been dead for several years and don't know it. I don't remember the specifics of all of them, but I've "died" several times in dreams, most recently a few months ago.

Ok... So I have had several dreams like this in which I remember very clear details. Things I have never seen before but there they are in the dream, and then sometimes years later it plays out. Occasionally when I have these 'normal' dreams I write it down, but I have told friend about it also, and then the moments happen.
I have no explanation, but I will say I believe you even if nobody else does.
Ditto. BTDT. Not for a while though. I don't dream much anymore.
I have experienced very strange and vivid dreams since I was a kid. I remember many of them, and some people tell me I should write a book or screenplay about them because they are berking ODD. Some examples:
-Earliest dream I can remember was an all-timer. I was only about 3 at the time but I was somehow a teen in the dream. I arrived home at my house and no one was home and vacuum cleaners were cleaning the carpets by themselves. This freaked me out, and I ran outside. Then The Price Is Right logo chased me down the street.
-Recurring dreams where my mother's 1970 Olds 98 Convertible would drive me around as a kid by itself. It would talk to me and the steering wheel horn button lit up when it did. It usually took me to a relative's house.
-There was another one when I was a kid that involved me driving K.I.T.T. on the obstacle course from the Paperboy video game with my aunt in the passenger seat yelling at me to slow down. I didn't. That one was awesome.
-Another one where a college buddy and I stole some guy's mozzarella sticks from a sub shop and he got really mad. He chased us into a museum, and another friend worked security there and wouldn't let him in, so we sat at a table in the entrance of the museum, eating the dude's mozzarella sticks while he watched from outside.
-Various dreams where I walk outside and my project car is all done. This one is especially disappointing and never comes true.
Just last night, I had a dream that Church's Chicken entered the Great Chicken Sandwich War of 2019, and started sabotaging food shipments of Chick-Fil-A, Popeye's and other chicken restaurants. This made Church's the only choice if you wanted a Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich. Pretty soon, Church's was the only restaurant around, kind of like how all restaurants were Taco Bell in Demolition Man. I've never been to a Church's in real life (I live in MA and there aren't any around here that I know of) but man, it was INTENSE.
I had a hugely active dream life as a kid (largely because I hated my "real" life). Would have wonderful dreams of floating. Then Godzilla or other massive creatures entered the dreams until they became lucid enough that I could will myself into a fast car and race away, monster close behind.
And people wonder why I love cars....
When I was younger I used to have a recurring dream where I was shooting aliens on a spaceship and it looked a lot like one of the last levels of Prey, this one here:
So I had a weird sense of deja-vu when I played that.
