Local Facebook group post this afternoon: 2002 BMW 330Ci, manual, 115k. Needs to be towed, flat tire, dead battery, window broken and radio gone. Apartment going to tow it. Don't have time to deal with it and don't need it. First one here gets it. So I responded and asked if I brought a tire and battery would it drive and he said "sure." Texted my son at work, told him to take the spare and battery out of his E46 and borrow a car and haul butt down there to claim it. He attacks the trunk, throws it all in the back of a borrowed car, texts the guy that he is on the way. Five minutes later he gets a response that the car is "promised" to someone. WTF? You said first one gets it. Oh well, that would have been a nice $0 starting point.

I've had a lot of something similar to those lately

I never promise CL cars. If the guy beats you by five minutes, tough E36 M3.

Odds are good promised buyer never showed. I'd call back.

If the guy beats him by five minutes and the other guy shows up during, p I play them against each other. Unless I like one guy and the other is wearing a flat brim hat.
I am the wrong guy to have any amount of power.

Maybe you were the one the guy told your son the car was promised to ????

this

There's maybe a 25% chance the "promise keeper" kept his "promise".

No, I just asked if it ran and that was it. I never said anything that sounded like I was interested. There were other people that were inboxing him. In retrospect we should have called "dibs" I guess but he was so clear. Apt was going to tow it today, first one there ahead of the tow truck won the prize.

I know, that's what drives me crazy about what he did.... I'm so torn between hoping karma bit him and make him suffer, and getting a $0 E46.

That was your cue to asking, "Was his promise backed by Ben Franklin?"

I bet someone actually offered him money for it.

I had a similar situation with an outdoor patio set. I showed up and there was a note that it was "promised"

I took it anyway. Sorry, terms set.
