Wife and I were out running errands, and saw a very rusted late 90s mustang for sale for $1200obo . My wife said it would be good for rally... I said it was it was under $2016 challenge budget...
I then said, "but if I was going to buy a challenge car we would buy the car our friends Megan and Keith have been trying to sell for at least the last two years."
We went just to visit our freind Megan this afternoon and I jokingly asked her if how their autistic son Aaron would feel if we turned the Lincoln into a race car.... her eyes got really big and she said "we can charge the battery and you can drive it home tonight!"
Nothing is finalized yet but I might be the new owner of this:
2017 aristocrat??

Please don't turn that into a racecar! These old Lincolns are so awesome for the land-barges they are, I really hate seeing the world lose another one - and that one looks pretty clean too!
Please bring this! Doesn't need to be a race car to be a car that is raced.

I have driven this car several times and really enjoy it! It is so ridiculous it is awesome. The car is petty clean but not perfect. The vynil top has shredded it's self, the passenger front door is caved from their son figuring out how to get their DD into reverse. It has rust forming in the rockers.
My plan wasn't going to be too crazy... I was thinking of lowering it and increasing the spring rate, wider wheels, make the motor breath easier, and fix the door and paint, but I had already desided to leave the 70's interior as my wife is thinking of making it the road trip car. She she actually said "Do you know how much yarn I could fit in there"
It won't happen for 16... If recall correctly the challange overlaps SCCA rallycross nationals, and I am planning on hitting that with the Vette... but 2017, that is a possibility.
I want it to compete just to see it beat something it shouldn't be able to.
Oh Lord! This means we should really get Kylini's $200 polka dotted Saturn up & running and have an Iowa contingent. That land barge would be a great option for transporting relief drivers for the penalty box that is the Saturn.
In reply to FooBag:
Just stick the Saturn in the trunk and carpool.

2015 aristocrat, 2016 soccer moms, 2017 land-boats?
If your making it a challenge car why didn't you just buy the mustang
I've seriously considered an old land barge for next year's challenge, assuming I can make this one, so you'll have company in the land barge category
Land Yacht Class needs to be a thing.
Land yachts! yes! 5000 lb minimum GRVW. i need to go find my old 85 LTD.

Honestly I really was joking when I mentioned it, but I have thought about what I could/ would do with the Lincoln if it were in my driveway.
The Mustang was v6 auto, and the rear fender arches were completely rusted away. It would make a good candidate for some righteous box flairs but I can get the Lincoln for less, it's in better shape, I know more of it's history, and it is way
I have no delusions about it being competitive. In fact if we make it to the challenge, have some laughs and make it back home with out an extended time on the side of the road, I will consider it an unmitigated win! Plus if your are going to do something... it should be with style

Ha! That would be great! It would be a long drive but I think it would be a riot, and probably safer to travel in heards.

Uhh an 85ltd is a fox chassis car and not near land barge status. Unless you mean ltd trim level crown victoria.
I hope the latest Japanese "Alien vs Predator" styling language ends up as ironically horrible in retrospect as 70's Malaise era cars.

Nice - Needs headers popping out the hood or front fenders and boss hog horns on the front.

Ahh yes I understand your confusion... if had been a GT I WOULD have been tempted to offer 800 and put flairs on ot that would make the cars in the IMSA thread jealous
