I vote for the "leave it in Pennsylvania" option.

OR: Leave it by the house (not close to the patio, I hope) and I'll come down and pick it up...

Exactly!

I mean, most of this is because I like it. XD

Plus, at the end of 2 years I end up with an asset that isn't depreciating. In the long term it makes sense.

Let this be a lesson to you all!

This is the kind of irrational optimism and self-delusion that is expected around here.

Should have done a manual transmission swap...

I bought a 300SD for a similar price, drove it for over 2 years and sold it for $2500.

I think I have no berking idea where all you people keep finding still-car-shaped, driveable cars for under $1000, let alone under $500.

They aren't advertised, and you have to go to weird peoples' houses and dig through crap to find them.

Meh, obviously not to anything like the same extent as most of you guys, but I am known as the "car guy" in our circle. Nobody ever offers me cheap cars in any condition, even though I clearly have a large tolerance for aged and aesthetically-challenged vehicles.

Truth.

The datsun 910 wagon that is the drivetrain donor in my replica cost a whopping $100. It didn't run at the moment, but a new fuel pump and it was drivable.....

I was just offered a challenge priced 1978 Ranchero

In reply to Duke:

You have to be in the right place at the right time. A friend of mine was given a 93 Buick Century and a 95 Geo Prizm free and clear with clean titles, only thing he had to do was pull them out of his buddys yard. The prizm only needed a starter, the buick just had to have the rats evicted from engine bay and the wasps kicked out from behind the fuel filler door... I just got a 92 accord from a friend for $450. it needed window regulators and a little transmission fluid. Stepdaughter is driving it now, got her out of my wife's car

Great. You can now answer the question, "Whose name is on the title?" Worth an extra few hun right there to someone who doesn't want to buy a car in legal limbo.

Maybe it's time for GRM to show the World how to make a luxirious lump livable with a small block swap story.

... or bring it back to Alabama.

That's pretty cheap! Seems like any trans rebuild for a modern car starts at $1800 and goes up from there...
