The new daily driver is an Electric Blue 2017 Elantra Sport. Was the 6M that listed for 22.8K, bought for under $17.7K after all discounts and rebates. Seems like an awful lot of car for the money--especially considering the standard warranty etc.

Other than the interior having an abundance of hard plastic, and no power driver seat, I don't really have any complaints of things that I would want to change. It fits my 5'18" (all legs) frame well, it has plenty of power to be entertaining (0-60 mid 6's), the suspension is communicative and brakes are quite good. I don't think there is much out there that can touch this car for the money.

It'll be a driver--I have a dedicated FSP car. I'm assuming it would be an HS car, and it's 200-300# heavier than the FiST, but I think it can take more tire on 7.5" wheel (vs 7"). Still would make a good local/regional car, IMO.

I have had it for 3 days--I'll chime in with more feedback as I get some miles on it.

i am dying to see what the rear suspension looks like on these. The Sport is the first of the chassis to get the new IRS over the torsion beam.

I changed the oil in a white one of these today. All i have too offer is the undertray design for 2017 is much better then the 2014-2016 cars from a service point of view.

Is it do-it-in-the-driveway easy?

Sweet! My DD is the previous gen Elantra with 6spd. Must really have a power upgrade, because mine would only do 0-60 in the mid 6s if I drove it off a cliff. Beyond that, for a high mileage eater, it's good.

The oil change in mine is do it in the driveway easy. Takes minutes.

I heard it desperately needs an LSD. But than again all FWD cars with an open diff need an LSD lol.

Remove 9 10mm bolts and its right there and easy to access.

The undertray on the 15-16 was 19 bolts, 3 diffrent sizes.

I'm tempted to go test drive one, but kinda afraid that I might come home with it.

I REALLY want the FiST, but this would almost certainly be a better daily.

Whatever happened to the little 1-bolt access hatch idea?

9 bolts to remove an undertray to do the oil is an improvement? berkeley. I'm guessing the undertray is for improving aero and mileage. How wide spread is this trend?

Honda/Acura has been doing this since ~2009 with the TSX and TL.

I hate changing the oil in our 2012 Focus because the undertray is this heavy felt thing that gets saturated with dirt and grime and it's held in place by crappy plastic screws.

On topic: cool car! I like that color

Keep us posted. I have been quite impressed with Hyundai lately and can see myself gettign one in the future for sure.

Truth be told, it was between a Veloster Turbo and Genesis coupe 3.8 and Miata on my last car buying adventure.

My g/f is on her second Sonata sport and i am much impressed with them

I've been wondering when someone here would pick one of these up. They look great on paper, so I'm eager to see how they do in the real world. Then again, my wife's old 2007 Elantra also looked great on paper, and that was one of the worst cars either one of us ever had. I'm pulling for these to be a success, because they pack a lot of stuff into the car at a very daily driver-friendly price.

On the oil change/under-tray thing, I must have lucked out with my Mazda 3. The oil drain plug is back beyond the tray, and there's a window for the oil filter. No tray removal required, and I can do an oil change in 10 minutes in my driveway. Transmission fluid change does require removal of the tray, but it's about 6-8 bolts and push pins to remove it. In retrospect, my old 2002 Jetta required the removal of TWO trays to do an oil change with what had to be about 20 bolts.

Regarding plastic trays, reverse in 5+" of snow at 20mph takes care of the concern.

Sounds like a nice ride. Later this year we get the hatch version and I am SERIOUSLY interested. It's the only non-Mazda new hatchback I find myself really attracted to.

The FiST needs an LSD, too. That was the one thing I hated about driving the one I had.
