9 bolts to remove an undertray to do the oil is an improvement? berkeley. I'm guessing the undertray is for improving aero and mileage. How wide spread is this trend?
Most japanese cars have been using some form since 04 or so. The koreans were late too the party in 14 so they went overkill. Ford started sticking them on everything in 12. Its like wet shag carpet under there.
The only thing more annoying then undertrays catching on is the gm 3.6 in SUV's.

Disagree. The 1999-2003 Suzuki Grand Vitara. Oil filter fit sideways on the block, directly above the front diff.... so it drained onto the diff, then around and onto the large flat and hollow front crossmember. Even using 2 cans of brake cleaner that thing would drip for a week.

I haven't encountered one yet, but the newest car I've been under is my '09 civic.

While the vitara is messy, the worst suzuki is the sx4 if you have adult sized hands. Ill quit thread jacking at this point.

I just signed for one of these tonight, will be getting it at the end of the week (i hope) because I wanted it in black. For the price point, it is super fun daily, and the exhaust note is pleasant. Reminds me of a GTI on a budget, can't wait to put some miles on it!
I just turned 49---so no. Gen X.

I'm 28, not sure what that has to do with an Elantra Sport
Congrats on the ES, tjbell. I really like mine--about 1800 miles so far.
still waiting on pics of the rear suspension.
I'm definitely interested in one of these, so I'm curious to hear more input from those that have purchased them so far. Features, warranty, fun to drive (from the reviews I've read and watched,) seem pretty tough to beat.

Its a lower control arm with springs and shocks--reminded me of my old Focus. I'll do my best to oblige.

Got mine yesterday, put on 75 miles so far so I can't give a full review but one thing I have found is the clutch is a lot lighter than I am used to

I REALLY want the FiST, but this would almost certainly be a better daily.
I was wise to be afraid. I traded in the Mazda 2 on a leftover white Elantra sport during Hyundai's summer sale.
I really like it so far!

This seems like one of those cars that is destined to be under appreciated by most people. The good news is that allowed you guys managed to get some great deals. :) I really like the current Hyundai blue. Their previous pacific blue was nice too (wife's Accent).
OP, what dealer did you get that from? I'm in St Francis and have been wondering which local Hyundai dealer is worth a damn.
Good looking car.
On the oil change thing, our odyssey oil filter is right above a frame rail...it's impossible to keep it for dripping on it and going everywhere. Very annoying.
Just broke a thousand miles this morning in the Sport, and I'm feeling better and better about my purchase.
The power and torque are welcome and fun additions to my daily drive, but the car feels very buttoned down and more mature than the FiST I was after. Even without the tech package, the base Sport packs a lot of niceties that I wouldn't really expect of a car at this price point. I'm also pretty pleased that Android Auto just enabled Waze to be used for navigation, so my base radio gives up almost nothing to the more expensive tech package's radio.
I don't really have any complaints about the car, I'm getting about the same mileage as my old Mazda 2 on regular fuel. (31-33mpg) I'm glad this car doesn't have the same E-LSD trickery as the FiST, and I haven't really wanted for a mechanical LSD during my drives. Maybe if I planned on tracking or autocrossing it, this would be more of an issue. I'm looking forward to winter driving on snows in this thing.
My only real concern about the car are the long term consequences of direct injection and carbon buildup on the intake valves. I'm kind of tempted to add an oil catch can, but speaking with a couple techs and a service writer lead me to believe that if I have an issue with the engine, Hyundai would likely point to my mod and deny my claim.
I am holding off on the OCC for that reason. My goal is to trade out by 100K anyway--and I put about 20k/yr on. CRC makes an Intake/Turbo cleaner spray that is intriguing. Use every 10K miles...LINK
I'm at 5.5K miles--absolutely enjoy the car every time I drive it.
If there's significant issues, I'm probably going to trade at the end of the warranty too. I'm worrying myself though, I REALLY like this car and may go out of my way to throw money at it and keep it going.
I'm really hoping that Hyundai N division has a hotter Elantra cooked up by then, or I could always just settle for a regular manual Elantra when/if I trade and wait for another decent sale to save a few bucks.
I'm trying not to worry and just enjoy having a daily I look forward to commuting in everyday. It's pretty easy to do at the moment!
I agree--I have not liked any new car any better than this one...and like you said, hopefully the "N" editions will be equally cool and affordable.
