While true, there's somewhat of a difference in driving experience. Specifically, a 911 sounds awesome, while a Z06 sounds like some redneck's Silverado.

But then people wouldn't automatically think you were rich.

Nope, sorry, not fixed. Z06s sound rather like crap.

There's something to be said for whatever magic European automakers use in making their intake and exhaust systems. They cut the noise while leaving the pleasant sounds behind. (Japanese companies cut the pleasant sounds too) American companies, so far, either have yet to figure out how to do that, or they just don't care.

The only down side for me is that people now assume I'm really rich (I'm not). I have coworkers who drive fully loaded $50k pick up trucks making comments about how I must be getting paid more than them. I don't really care, but I wasn't expecting that.

That's awesome, and that's exactly the type of thing I'm considering. Nice car!

I don't disagree, but there's just seething about a 911 that has always drawn me to it. I like the looks, the sounds, etc. I also think for non track use i'd enjoy the Porsche for lakeshore cruising on the weekends more.

Have you listened to Mustang GT? Seriously they sound awesome

I wouldn't know how a new GT sounds, I've only seen them from the outside. The interior intake sound transfer device doesn't have Bluetooth connectivity to hit up MY car's stereo.

...yet

I think that all the car magazine writers say that the 911 at least feel like a more fun car to drive than the same year Corvette. I need to test drive another Corvette and a 911 to see what they are talking about.

Oh, and when 10-15 year old 911s were 15K, was that 25-30K in today's dollars?

I couldn't. I was shopping c5 Z06's, 996's, and s2k's. The only z06's I could find under $20k were high mileage ones with questionable mods and histories and usually beat up mechanically (searching all over US). My 996 had 91k kms (55k miles), was stock and had a clean Carfax for $16.5k Canadian). I didn't love the s2k's I drove. I was almost willing to overlook not liking the car to autox in BS, but decided I'd rather have a car I liked.
