There it was, going down the road under its own power. A slightly tattered and faded and apparently completely stock early Chevette. Havent seen one of those for years. Except for the odd custom or restoration.

Maybe the diesels have a small following? I've never seen one that didn't have 6-8 cylinders stuffed under the hood.
I THINK that I spotted one on top of a school bus in the "local" scrap yard a few weeks ago, but I was a bit far away and didn't have my glasses with me. It was the correct "hatchback" shape and was painted in the very typical GM metallic mid-range blue with matching blue wheels and dog-dish caps.
I was looking all over for a four door '62 Corvair or Chevette when I stumbled on the C3 Vette that I bought instead.
I see one often. Hes fighting the urge to just smallblock it. His brother has a smallblock chevette and he cant stand how it handles. Its a toss up right now but may end up dakota 2.5 powered
I saw one in a Home Depot parking lot once a few months ago. I did a double take and turned back again. If you had told me in 1983 I'd be stopping to look at a Chevette...
Crap ! NOW I'm all charged up again.
These little things would be the ultimate sleeper if done up right. Looks like I'm back on the hunt once again . . . I have a Ford engine and four speed which would be a pretty nice fit. Even have a narrowed 9 inch Ford rear end that would fit without looking too out-of-place.
CRAP ! ! !
Saw a white one on the road today, and know of another (brown) in the area. They will likely be put away soon as winter approaches.
I just saw a nice stock survivor last week. Guy riding by on a bicycle shouts 'Dude is that a Pinto?'. At least he got the era correct.
There's a cherry two door right around the corner from me. I envision it with a turbo EcoTec and a six speed, and flares. Don't forget the flares.
Somewhere between doing the timing belt and getting around to cutting out what is left of the floors in mine, the engine decided it doesn't want to turn over...
I had the privilege to visit the GM Heritage Center a couple of months back. Of all of the great restorations, and prototypes, and absolute pieces of history on display, one of the cars I spent the most time viewing was a brand new, zero mile 1976 Chevette. It was an absolute time capsule. Special edition bicentennial seat cover package, no less. I was just struck standing there, thinking it had to be the single best Chevette on the planet.

All I know is the driver needs a little more time before he tries to race it.

If it's Europe he's probably already graduated out of karts, and this is just a short stop off on the way to F1 as soon as he's out of diapers.
I LOVE to have the Pontiac T-1000 we used to beat to death several years ago.
That's gotta be even more scarce than a Chevette huh?
I saw one for sale at a swap meet early this year. Factory two tone brown, factory A/C, and wait for it............A Sparkomatic Cassette Deck.
I have a pair of four inch Sparkomatic speakers and plastic mounting pods to go with it. Been saving them for that Vega (or TR7 coupe) that I expect to own one day. Got a pair of brown plaid "fashion flair" slacks from my father to wear when I find it.
Chevette-it's something. https://youtu.be/3yARgE9vosw
Every Chevette I've seen in the last 10 years is either dark blue or that aweful tan color, and always covered in chalky oxidation. Incidentally, does anyone happen to know which model had the least miserable power output?
IIRC, in the mid-80's they had a CS trim package. Not sure if it had more power, but it was the "sporty" look of the line up.

There are at least three T-1000s near me. Haven't seen a Chevette in a while.
