That is right, I sold my solid running 100$ stang when I was offered 700$. Now since that is gone i need to find something that handles well and can receive a 302 on the cheap..... new car threads are exciting.

Handles well and can receive a 302 on the cheap.. Can you weld? Broken miatas are pretty cheap, under $1k easily.
Problem with most of the things that can EASILY accept a 302 and can be had super cheap is they were all based on the fox platform as well
Maybe look for a broken Starion and swap it? Id guess a broken non turbo 924/944 is pretty cheap too..
First gen RX-7. Swap kit is cheap, clears the hood. Can find them all over for free to $1000 in good condition.
I'm down with a RX7..... what about the 1st gen 7 VS the FC? I heard FC drive train is very solid. I LOVE the look of the first gen rx7s
There has been one (two?) for sale in the Classifieds for a long time...IIRC, the seller is outofthefarside...or something like that.
SA/FB vs. FC? My suggestion would be to drive one of each and see which one you like best. 302 swaps are nothing new for either car and for the most part take the same amount of effort. Most rotary boards have V-8 swap sections. Granny's Speed Shop sells V-8 conversion kits or you can fab up your own mounts.
SA/FB RX-7 all the way. They are stupid-cheap with blown motor, 302's drop right in like they were designed for it, and they are wicked fast when finished.
The second gen is a more stable chassis. Independent suspension and all. It is bigger and heavier though. I have had a bunch (6ish) first gens. They are cheap and for the most part are not prone to rusting except for near the storage bins. I have two or three right not and just bought a pair of 302 mounts today. Cost me $40 shipped used. It does not get any cheaper than that.

Also, just throwing another suggestion out there...Volvo. One of the boxy ones.
My wife. I have two in the garage and gave/sold one to Debbies husband Steve as a Challenge Car which got replaced by a 5.0 Miata. I needed room and a Challenge car sounded more fun that selling it. Now we have this running $300ish SA RX-7 just sitting waiting for Lemons and/or a V8.
Oh and I have one of those Volvo 5.0's hanging around. And I know there is a 5.0 240 conversion kit for $250 on turbobricks.com.

yes....sleeper
umm.. do 1st gen rx7s really handle that well with a v8 in front?
The FC is an obvious one i overlooked but seems to fit the bill!
Stipped of emissions, AC and no power steering they are not a whole lot heavier than a full AC, power steering rotary. Aluminum heads also help The motor is set back relatively far so distribution doesn't get thrown way off.
The added torque and power is enough to make me want one.
A SA RX is sex on wheels... and about weight on the nose, I only have iron heads with all the fuel injection hardware. I'd love to score some aluminum bits of go fast goodies, but I'm on this forum because money is in short supply. Thanks for all the ideas. the turbo brick is awesome as hell too!
Go for the sleeper. 240 Volvo V-8. Id there not a "heat problem" with ones feet in a V-8 RX-7 that's not a track car/drive it a half hour toy? Even with Dynamat, I would think the heat buildup in the foot area would be like driving a Cobra: Lots of fun until you try to walk after driving it.
