2000 - 2002 Lincoln LS with a manual trans.   They all seem to have disappeared.  I am sorta kinda looking for a drivetrain donor but I have not been able to find any other than one in a yard in Michigan that they are selling the trans from.

Yep those are pretty hard to find. I want one but I'm sadly never going to have one. Mostly because all the parts that break will be impossible to find. Might be fine as a drivetrain donor though.

Probably all three that they sold have been scrapped by now.

The front suspension was shockingly expensive to rebuild, and the rear suspension had rod ends instead of bushings, and they would bind up, when they bound up they would rip the mounting ears off of the subframe.

One just sold through Copart in Chambersburg, PA.  They do exist, but they are super rare.  It had some minor damage to the drivers front corner, but was enough to total the car with their current value.

AFAIK there were only ~2300 built with the manual trans

I looked at one a couple years ago as a Challenge car with potential to DD afterward. It was definitely a never meet your hero moment, and wholly underwhelming. Unfortunately(fortunately) it was a complete rot box and I was able to walk away.

They rust in weird places to, and completely! One I looked at the fender inside the rear drivers side door was rotted through. Through! Inside the door!

In reply to chandler :

I could have pushed thru the door jamb and touched the rear tire....car also had no rockers behind the plastics, none.

They're extremely underwhelming. The e39 530i was better in every way.

As I recall the coolant systems on them were as terrible as obd1 VR6 cooling systems were as well.

Imagine a large Taurus with German electricals, that's basically a Lincoln LS.

Dean, why not a V6 Mustang? I have seen many with stcks.

In reply to Donebrokeit :

The V6 Mustangs literally have truck motors.  The 3.8 was a Windstar engine, the 4.0 was a Ranger engine, the 3.7 is used in Transits.

The Lincoln LS's engine is basically an all-Ford version of the original SHO: three liters, 24 valves, 220 horsepower.

Without the revs or the song. frown
I bought a first gen SHO instead of the manual LS I looked at. Much better car despite being 11yrs older and FWD.

This started with me looking at Mazda k motors. But they only go out to 2.5 l. But they do make great sounds.  The I was thinking the 3.0 v6 from a jag S type but I don't think they ever came with a manual. Then I remembered the LS and it did come with a manual so no mixing and matching the trans and clutch.

I don't have to imagine. My grandfather had one that I maintained for him. It was worse than any European car I've experienced.

I am actually going to call about the one with 100K on it and see what they would want for the motor, trans and hopefully the wiring harness with the ecu as a complete unit.

In such a heavy vehicle I can see these being dogs but in a small light weight car this could be a fun package.  What I don't know is of they are alu blocks or iron.  I am going to have to look that up.

In reply to dean1484 :

All aluminum.

weird shaped oil pan, too, which is either a hindrance or perfect, depending on the new chassis.

Sounds like what you should really be looking for is a Nissan VQ30 or VQ35. More available, better motors, and available in rear wheel drive configuration with manual.

My brother bought a v6 5 speed LS that was a year old with 3000 miles. It wasn't a dragstrip car but very enjoyable to drive. His was dead nuts reliable. Scheduled service for 100000 or so miles. It was a great winter car. I have a soft spot for them

Why not a Jag S type for the donor?  I think those could be had with a stick too?

I think they look fantastic at least. They're one of the best looking cars to come out around then and the best looking Lincoln ever. I wonder how things would have evolved from that lineage had it not been a one-off

Never drove one though.

Thus is what I would like but I think they are even more rare than a manual LS

Of course here comes the next question.. Can you get just any old LS drivetrain and swap a manual in?

Wait a minute... maybe put an LS drivetrain in it. Like an LS3...???
