I am going to park the RX-8 for the Michigan winter. The cost for a set of snow tires and wheels is almost as much as getting a winter beater, and i really don't want to subject that car to road salt. Budget is ~$2000.
I've been scouring CL and it for what I can get up here vs. down south makes it worth the trip. $2k here buys a rust bucket. $2k south buys a solid body w/ faded paint and some dents, but much less rust and easier to work on. I'd also like to find something within the next month before the winter 4x4 tax hits. Once I get it up north, I'm going to paint bedliner on the rockers and fenders and maybe undercoat it. If I have to I can hopefully sell in the spring to break even/profit.
I'm looking at XJ's, older F150's or F250's, Pathfinders, 4Runners, etc. This vehicle would also be used for chore duty , as well as some light off roading (never done it before and I want to try) and dirt road trekking (lots of dirt roads here and I can't really take the RX-8 on them with 19" wheels).
Any other suggestions? Anyone got anything they want to sell?
Thanks!
Buy that one dudes Toyota Corolla.

I don't think it would do off-road very well...
Take your pick:

I cant speak too highly of XJ's. (which means I LOVE them and all the things they can do well). Swiss army knife of the suv world.
In reply to Winston:
wow...thanks! My gf has family there also...pondering...
Now, i wonder...
If i buy two trucks, rent/buy a trailer, tow one truck back and sell it up here, could i profit? hmmm
PA can be a good place to buy SUVs and Trucks.. due to their anti-rust laws built into their inspection process.. perfectly good winter beaters fail inspection for rust in wheel wells, bumpers, and other useless places that have nothing to do with safety
Check Nissan frontiers I've seen multiple no rust subjects on CL in west Michigan lately for right around 2K, I know because I'm doing the same haha
