I bought the CLS63 this morning. 2 owner, well cared for with a stack of receipts, no signs of paintwork, professional very nice quasi car guy owner. Nearly new tires, brakes 10k ago, all books, 2 keys, performance package and premium package, just a good car all around. $18k, picking it up next weekend.

Nice! Have you found a decent Mercedes forum to gather information? I'm excited to hear your initial impressions and how the car handles One Lap.

Pics please! This thread has been bad for my mental future vehicle planning. I wasn't aware such potentially fantastic cars were available so (relatively) cheaply

I use benzworld.org and mbworld both a good bit. Please post your impressions once you get it.

Here's the only picture I have of it for now, more to come after I pick it up this weekend.

I've used MBworld and Benzworld so far, both have a moderate signal:noise ratio, but most of the data is there.

Full report to come once I have driven it more, but initial impressions is that it is holy E36 M3 fast, and just doesn't stop accelerating at higher speeds, but it is also completely docile in traffic. It also sounds fantastic. The rear seat is on the smaller side, especially compared to the limo like S class, but it fit my 5'11" frame in fine, and would be comfortable for longer trips.

I'm pretty excited, this seems like a great car that was well cared for.

Now I'm trying to work out what wheel/tire combo to run on One Lap. It has a staggered 19" setup now (8.5" front, 9.5" rear, 255/35/19 F, 285/30/19 rear. I'mont sure if a square setup will fit or not, as most who have these like the staggered look. These particular wheels are basically impossible to find, as they are the multi piece performance package only models, so I'll probably have to find another set, probably the standards CLS63 parts which are the same size but one piece. The stickiest of tires are also not made in the right sizes for the rear, so I'll probably have to stick with something like a Continental DW or Bridgestone S04 instead of an RE71R.

Oh buddy, this might be the cheapest 500 hp car that jumps to mind that isn't modded. You sir, have fun trying not to get speeding tickets. I am not sure if I could manage that.

The E63 can be found for less, along with the E/CL/S/CLS 55, and all are similar in power. E60 M5s can be had under 20 pretty regularly too.

Yes, trying to restrain myself will surely be an issue. I've managed to only get one ticket in 5 years with my Z4M coupe though, maybe I'm just getting old.

Picked it up this morning. Super simple transaction with a really great seller. Drove home in traffic in "old man" mode, every setting in comfort mode. With those settings and driven like a normal person, this is an incredibly docile, comfortable, quiet, easy going nice car, that I could easily loan to my 73 year old mom (even if she didn't DD a manual trans E46 wagon). But, put everything in sport, and start pushing on the right pedal a bit, and holy crap, it transforms. It really is a jeckel &hyde.

It doesn't drive as big as it is, especially at moderate speed. Once you really get going in twisty roads you can tell it is not a sports car, but it does a damn fine impression most of the time. The really amazing thing is the stupendous power. 507 hp sounds like a lot, and it is. This car would easily walk away from my Z4M in a straight line. The acceleration from 120-140 is at a similar rate to many cars from 20-40. It sounds amazing. In sport mode, the 7 speed automatic does a great job of hanging onto gears and downshifting in advance.

The interior is a wonderful place to be. It has every feature I could possibly want, and is well laid out. The Command system will take a bit of learning, but it is much better than the awful myFordTouch system in newer Fords, for example. This one has a bit of wear on the shifter, the armrest on the drivers door, and the trim by the doors from feet, all of which I can pretty easily refresh from Mercedes.

I have a 1" thick folder of service records. The PO basically had an open checkbook on this thing. Some maintenance parts are eye waveringly expensive, but little has gone wrong really. Example: the performance package that this car has, has 15.2" two piece brake rotors. Those are $1100 each from Mercedes, and about $500 from Brembo, and 19" wheels are the smallest that will clear them. The 285/30/19 rear tires are easily $260+ each. It takes 9+ quarts of oil in the dry sump system, fortunately it likes standard Mobil 1 0w-40. It will struggle to ever see 20 mpg.

So, basically, it is an amazing car, that most people wouldn't enjoy owning. because is it just too much for most people. For what we want it for, it is perfect.

So, should this thread continue with the prep for one lap, and then the event itself, or should there be a new thread? If new, in GRM, adventures, or builds?
