What is the smallest car GM builds that they put AWD in? That's the best bet for a minimal engineering nutty project.
Chevy Sonic (2wd) and Buick Encore/Chevy Trax (available awd) share the same GM Gamma chassis.
It would seem that a Sonic awd or maybe rwd would be possible.
all your RWD performance needs are met with the Camaro and Corvette.
Thank you,

(no one wants a lightweight, low cost RWD car. What do you think this is, the '70's?)
Make the Sonic hatch RWD and call it the Chevette
I just want a cruze wagon.....

Dear Chevy,
Please drop the 2.0L turbo lump destined for the new Camaro into the Spark, or even the Sonic, driving the rear wheels. Price it in the high 20s-30K and make it limited numbers. Show us that you have a sense of humor and a giant sense of fun. Laugh with us, laugh at the Fiesta ST, VW GTI, Cooper S, and Abarths. You used to do things that were outside of the box in smaller, more creative platforms, the Corvair, the Fiero. I'm not even suggesting that you develop a mid-engine DI 4 pot monster (not that I don't think that you'd find success if you did with the trick magnetic suspension tricks you now love to use). But I implore you, do something shocking in a small package with this great little lump of thunder that you've created.

Oh now that sounds like fun

Dear GM - here is what I want:
- Cruze Wagon
- With the Turbo-diesel
- AWD from one of those little SUV's
- 6 spd. manual
- Oh and put some suspension under it like a Subaru Crosstrek XV

I thought they already had done something batE36 M3 crazy.
In my opinion, this is even more batE36 M3 crazy.
In reply to Chris V: It seems more like an appearance package than a high performance package. I don't think they would come close in a comparison test because they're sold with all-season tires.
Anybody remember the 5.0 Mustang vs. IROC Camaro wars in the 90's when 235 hp got it done? And even that came in cars with more chassis flex than a worn-out flip-flop.
Now we have 240hp in Subarus, VW's and Mitsubishis with 10x the chassis and handling.
Hell, my '95 F150 came with 185 hp and the new one can be ordered with 385! These are good days we live in but its like that old line "show me the hottest woman in the world and I'll show you a guy that's tired of berkeleying her".
