ICYMI: Japanese automakers revealed several sporty EV concepts ahead of the opening of the Japan Mobility Show–the apparent successor to the Tokyo Motor Show.
Although the details are scant, here is what has been presented so far.

Toyota didn’t offer many details during its presentation, though the GR-branded, all-electric two-seater is certainly giving off …

Love the look of the FT-Se, though the Prelude looks surprisingly production-ready for a concept.

The Nissan Hyper Force is laughably hideous. It looks like PS1 graphics.

Would it look better if it was on an open trailer being towed by a Tesla Cybertruck?

It looks like a GTR roof grafted onto a late model dirt track car.
I've always loved mazda's, but this has to be their best looking concept in a decade, I just hope they make it.

Is the Cybertruck designer working for Nissan?
In reply to j_tso :
Their "cyber" series of concepts have been terrible looking, almost as if they were designed with a ruler, like the cyber truck.
The Mazda Iconic SP is not quite an RX-7 nor a Miata. In my mind the size is perfect and the aethetics are spot on. (Though I have minor quibbles about the upper rear of the car). The drivetrain is intriguing but I'd prefer a much lighter car and a simpler way to power it. Also a manual gearbox. :-)
The FT-Se and Iconic SP are HAWT! The Prelude's a nice looking car too. The Hyper Force is, uh, let's say daring
The first 3 are all cars I would consider if they depreciate into my reach, I'll be closely awaiting the specs on the FT-Se and Prelude. A rotary as a range-extender APU makes a lot of sense.
How many years for the Mazda one to be on the market?

It's nice to know that there are actually interesting EV's coming... Hopefully some actually get priced for the masses.
this has strong "ev-ified prius platform" vibes to me
the Hyper Force gives me really strong "R35 GTR with bosozuku body kit, rendered in the OG Tomb Raider game engine" vibes, and I'm not here for it. the Mazda and the Toyota though... who do I throw money at and when can I start?
Another point from one of the presentations–Toyota's I think–mentioned that a lot of the upcoming designs will focus on a lower center of gravity to maximize performance.
To me, that sounds like car companies might start moving away from taller/high-riding SUVs. I can hope at least.
In reply to Colin Wood :
Most modern consumer electric vehicles have their batteries under the floor for a lower CG. There's nothing new about that. GM's AUTOnomy concept was the first one that I remember using this idea of a "skateboard".

The Mazda Iconic SP makes me think of a second gen MR2; very 90s Jellybean look if they kept with that style and kept trying to improve it. FT-Se looks wonderful, like a Toyota EV take on the Lotus Evora.

I'm running my entire reality on low-poly graphics for maximum performance
My prediction for the Prelude: It's going to have a 'reverse' NSX drivetrain. Not with the fancy V6 or DCT, of course, but it's going to use a similar system with a 4 cylinder in front and the electric motor in the rear. All the accounts I read indicated that it was a really good setup.
The engine and electric motor specs will depend on how they want to position it relative to the sportier civics. Put the TMU from the NSX in the rear (2 x 36 hp electric motors). Depending on which civic motor you pair it with you get:
Base civic engine: 230 HP
Civic Si engine: 272 HP
My guess is the Civic Si engine because that puts it square between the Civic Si and the Civic Type R. They could plunk in a Civic Type R engine if they ever wound up wanting to make a Prelude Type R.
