This is out of a Citicar. I'm trying to figure out what it is so that I can see about changing the gears. Supposedly a Dana/Spicer

That housing is like nothing I've seen in my 45 years as a professional mechanic. Almost looks like sprint car stuff.
Maybe Dana or Spicer guts in a bespoke housing?

Unfortunately I stole those pictures off the internet. I don't have one on hand.
Edit: Do you mean to find out the gear ratio? I know that is 5.17. I'm trying to find out if I can get gears more around 3.
They use some differentials like that in electric mine carts and the flatbed things they use as maintenance carts in some bigger plants. Cant think of the name....
Searched a lot more and seems Dana/Spicer made these axles for 70s/80s golf carts which makes sense being in a Citicar. Not a lot of solid info but some hints lead me to believe the tallest gears for them is 5.17. That means it won't work for my idea.

I was wondering if a forklift drive axle might be part of it.

He was thinking about Taylor Dunn and they did use similar axles back in the same time frame.

Yeah, I saw some that had a familiar construction, but they all seem to use something like a portal gearset, not the direct drive that seems to have.
Did TD make the axles as well?
... actually, because it is a direct drive, I'd bet you could find that axle somewhere else in ICE form
The portal gearset type axle became the standard over the above axle starting in the 80s Their gear ratios are even worse. I'm sure the direct connect is just some adapter and you're probably correct. Anyway I'm dropping this idea as I need a top speed higher than these ratios will allow.
