That everyone else is heading to the challenge.
I will be at home, having one last study weekend before taking the PE. Anyone doing any cool car stuff instead of the challenge?

Not me. I'm putting a new clutch in my Miata. But good luck on the PE test! I almost took it soon after I got out of college, and now regret that I didn't.
Taking the FD to Summit Point for an HPDE this weekend. Looks like we'll have nice fall weather. Good for boost ;)
I might work on fabricating some seat risers for the passenger seat in the mustang.....so no, nothing cool. GL on the exam! By next year you'll be making all that big engineering scratch and have plenty of dough to do car stuff.
Good Luck! I got my PE in Jan 2011. If you're not studying from a practice exam... you should be. At least I think it was a huge help using the study manual and corresponding practice exam. YMMV!
The looong race is this weekend. Vintage weekend at Blackhawk farms, wi. Will be making a return to the challenge in 2016.

Out of curiosity, how do you feel that decision has affected your career path? I'm now 2+ years out of school and haven't yet taken my FE exam, nor really given much thought to it at all, TBH.
No big plans, have the kids, also feeling jealous about going to the challenge. I should make plans for next year.

I think it depends on your industry. I work in consulting engineering and having a PE after your name on the business card is worth a few $K to your pay, despite the fact the chances of you ever having to sign & seal anything is close to nil.
PA used to allow taking the PE exam based on experience in lieu of an engineering degree, but that is no longer the case. If I have one career regret, it's not taking it when I had the chance. At this point in my life, I have no desire to finish my degree.
I'll be mtn biking with my teammates on Sat and taking the Spitfire to a car show on Sun.

I've studied umpteen practice exams and have them marked and ready. A milk crate full of references that I will likely not need. I feel confident on this one and I'm ready to get it over with. I'm a civil (geotechnical) so this is important. Passed the FE last year 6 years out of school and that was hellacious. Good thing is the PE seems simpler and the hardest stuff is a carry over from the FE that I'm relatively fresh with.
Appreciate all the good luck on the test. Ready to spend time in the garage again.
Im changing a lower intake gasket in my dads 01 s10 with the 4.3, not fun or even cool but it needs done.

I need to take that next year. Which one you taking?

Its hard to say, because I ended up going into fields that didn't require it. If I had taken it I may have gone elsewhere. I really only regret it because it would have been an accomplishment, and while in college I worked for a commercial HVAC engineering firm. If I had stayed I would have needed to pass the test, but I ended up leaving that company and now do mobile HVAC design and testing, which doesn't require the PE. So for any given person it really depends on what your goals are as to how beneficial it would be. I'll say this - If I had it all to do over again, I'd take it because having done that and not using it would be better than not having it and needing it later when you've forgotten most of what you learned.
Well I just payed for the front end body parts for the AMG, so hopefully I can pick it all up tomorrow and then swap it out over the weekend. I was hoping to have this done last weekend so I could drive it up and check out the shenanigans, but parts were a little harder to find than I thought.
Good luck on the test. As a Civil it will really help your career path. My wife and I took it about 5 years ago. She was 6 months pregnant when she took it!
Thanks for the wisdom guys, that basically jives with what I've heard before - depends on what field you end up in. I'm a Mech E, but I know for civil its all but a requirement - civil engineers all had to take the FE exam to graduate where I went to college. The reason asked is I'm preparing to start job searching again in the coming months and have been doing some soul searching/assessment of long term goals in preparation for that. I think I bit to quickly on the first offer when I took my current job and haven't been entirely happy as a result, hoping not to repeat that this time.
Anyways, good luck to Scottah. Thread jack over!

Hey, what a coincidence! I'll be flagging an HPDE at Summit Point (Jefferson) on Sunday! Maybe I'll see you there.
As predicted I am swamped with work and getting to the Challenge is just not in the cards. I need retire so I can do more fun things in life.
I'll be swapping a 8.1 and doing a head gasket in a 190e; who am I kidding...I'll play with the kids and clean up the yard and accomplish nothing automotive
I'll be starting my second job
I also need to find time to get housework/yardwork done, and get the truck finished. No sleep for me!

I'll be at Shenandoah on Saturday with TrackDaze but won't be around on Sunday. I haven't been to Jefferson since the expansion. How is it?

Yep, me too. And like you I ultimately went into I field I don't need it either.
Still, I wish I would have done it and could claim the title today.
NOT interested in the study work required to go take it now.

I took the FE/EIT back in 89 when I was a senior, but never took the PE test.
+23 years without needing it. There are industries that don't need a PE- and automotive development is one of them.
A PhD would be more useful, as it's the easy button to a Tech Specialist path.
As for the challenge- some dreams and ideas of making another car, as well as another attempt at getting an FTD as owner/driver and no pro. At this point, I have my doubts of doing it again. It was fun when we did it.
