Thank your lucky stars you're not paying for car insurance in Ontario, only comprehensive policies are legal here, ~$730US/yr for the family beater van and about twice that much for the Toyobaru
And it used to be worse, I ragequit a policy that cost 20% more last winter. Saved money by moving to the only insurance company that takes foreign driving experience into consideration. I did call Hagerty for a quote at that time, but they said that they wouldn't cover any cars used in any sort of competition, although I heard around mid-2022 that they would be changing that. However Hagerty is a premium option, they're the best but certainly not the cheapest.
i think its funny that Hagerty who sells competition insurance for HPDE and TT won't cover a car that is used in that way. I can understand excluding insurance for it during that time but not covering it? any idea what the justification is for that?
Hagerty requires the car be stored inside and proof you have a daily driver. Still worth getting a quote.

That is (was?) a Canada-specific policy, in the US they will cover competition cars.
As for why...no idea.
Are there any policies that allow you to insure a car like a weekend/toy car if you only have 2 cars between yourself and your wife?
I work from home and drive my car no more than 5000 miles per year.
Call an independent insurance broker. They will have access to companies you've never heard of and will be able to set you up with the right specialist company. My insurance payments don't go towards Superbowl ads with animated CGI spokelizards, they go towards insurance. It'll save you a huge amount of time - and you can call up and say "it's been a year, is this still the right plan?". Plus, if there is a problem, they work for YOU and not the insurance company. That can't be overstated.
Scardeal, you can definitely have secondary cars with lower costs. I think you only need one DD, but that will depend on the company.
Hagerty likely has different divisions, and they certainly consider a collectible to be a different beast from a competition car - as they should. Of course a classic car being used on the track isn't eligible for classic car insurance, the rates and coverage for classic car policies are assuming certain low-risk use and high quality care.

Thank you, interesting to know!
Anyone have recommendations for good brokers in PA? I'm in the Philly suburbs, chester county if that helps.
