Wow. I thought I new how to berkeley up a good thing:

Not a Mustang?
Orange?
There to make the blue one look good?

My bad. I grabbed the first image that popped up on Google. Any pics of the one you drove?
Man, I can't believe car guys here don't even recognize the few year old Giugiaro Mustang concept. it came out in 2006! Designed by Fabrizio Giugiaro, styling director of italdesign.
FWIW: I don't read Motor Trend unless it's all that's available in the doctor's office, and will, more than likely, never own a mustang...certainly not a new one.
I've seen 2010 Mustangs on the street - there was one staying at our hotel at the Mitty, actually. They look a lot like 2009 Mustangs with just a bit of evolution.
It's not a bad car, but it's not a Mustang.
The answer is: Italians designers should keep their hands off iconic American Muscle cars.

Dude. Dude. This car was in nearly every car magazine and every car website in '06/early'07. I just linked to MT because it was about the first to show up in the google results.
And as a car guy, I pay attention to all of them, even cars I'm "never" gonna own.

But you'll go out of your way to post pictures to criticize one that you "think" is the right one? Kinda strange for a car guy, if you ask me.
E
There was also an old mustang done by the senior Giugiaro a long time ago, this was like a mirror of that.
The new mustang definitely looks better and i've never liked them. I wouldn't own one either but from what i read they pull like .9G on a skid pad, that's not bad for a live axle.

Are those the ones with the ugly bulging tail lights?
It is an interesting problem though. You have a "retro" design car. So where do you go from there? I guess they can make it overly bulky for the next gen, then go with the Mustang III (II+, IV...) taking out most of the power but putting in a bunch of cool "fast" stickers!
Once you go retro, you can't go back... or, you just did, but you can't go forward... except to go back... to go forward again...
...maybe going retro is not a good idea.

As long as they can sell 100k a year, it's a good idea. Especially when they come out with limited edition versions, and sell them at a premium.
Think about it another way- for every Miata sold, there are 10 Mustangs sold. Who's the winner?
I'm sure it will evolve, somehow, with a V8, and cool appearence.
I like the front of the '10. I don't mind the flanks or the cowl induction hood, even though they both are Camaro traits to me.
OTOH, the rear is just wrong.
I've heard that grafting the 05-09 bumper/lights onto the back of the 10 is actually kind of easy...

The Miata owner who picks up a Mustang engine and transmission cheap and installs them in his car.

no, it was a v6 auto with the premium package (only '10 they had left that wasn't in the process of being sold, and i was there for the cancer donation thing). they got the engine sound down pretty good, as the v6 does a pretty good v8 impersonation as long as you don't wind it out.
one thing i liked was that you can get the backup camera without having to pay for the navigation. on cars with the b/u camera and no navi, there is a screen in the rearview mirror that comes on when you put it in reverse. the sync system (even though it makes annoying 80's arcade game sounds) also gives ipod controls and voice activated bluetooth phone connectivity. the car also felt more solid than the 08 that i test drove back when i was last looking at cars.

You win. I'm not a "car guy." Damn.

Yay.....
I still don't get why. Does it make you feel better or more superior in some manner? It would be one thing if you were waiting for the new one to come out to get one, and then search google to find that it's not what you think is a good car. It's another when you search goodle for a car you don't want, find the wrong picture of the new car, and THEN STILL posts that you think it's ugly. That's a lot of work for a car you don't even like.
You'll need to log in to post.
