All I can say is look at how hard Top gear tried to ruin their's.
from drowning it in the ocean to  put it on top of a tall building about to be demolished. I forget all the nonsense they went through. But if those clowns couldn't destroy it it's got to be plenty durable.

I am sure there is a UK or aussie forum  that has a lot of info about these trucks .

I assume its over 25 years old so it could be imported easily

Yep. Already sitting in Virginia. Fly, hand wad of cash, spend 12 hours learning rhd.

How many times have you shifted the door handle ?

Have fun :)

I got used to shifting pretty quick but for five days turned on the wipers every time I changed lanes.

Some YouTube idiot recently demolished a really clean one over the course of a few videos, they definitely seem durable though.

Did the ur-a-peein' trucks come wit the same (or similar) diesel as the few US spec. ones? If so, def. not a power house, adequate mpg, but parts are available.

I bought a JDM Landcruiser because I always wanted one with a manual transmission.  I could not get insurance through State Farm or Allstate.  "Not certified safe by the ole USA."  Hagerty insured but not as a daily driver.

Not sure of what generation your looking at or your budget but I saw this one and it is looking tasty.

1993 Hilux Surf SSR-X

I bought one from them and the transaction went good for me. I had it shiped home from Flordia due to covid.

I had to look at Japanese Classics LLC web site and now I'm craving that Nissan Safari! That would be the perfect tow rig for my R32 GT-R!

Sorry I just saw this thread. Been away from the forum over the weekend. Toyota 3.0 litre diesel in the Surf is pretty legendary. Not the quickest vehicle, but that's nit really why you buy a diesel. I'd love a Toyota diesel. I love my Mitsubishi diesel, but man it is just god awful slow for freeway driving. Excellent around town, and off road. Simple mechanical injection on these so very simple. I'm a big Toyota guy even though I own almost exclusively Mazda, and Mitsubishi's. My daily driver is a 15 year old Toyota.

As far as insuring an old JDM vehicle it os pretty easy nowadays. When I imported the Delica almost 7 years ago it was a bit more different, and Hagerty turned me away even though I had two other vehicles on a policy with them, and had many others before that. A month or so later Hagerty called me, and asked if I wanted to add it to my policy. Of course I did. Insurance should be no concern for you with a JDM vehicle in 2021.

With regard to JDM Classics. I have read almost nothing but terrible reviews of them(admittedly from a FB page about being screwed by JDM importers so take that with a grain of salt). Also back in April our family drove down to FL to visit my wife's parents. Before coming back North I contacted them, and inquired about a particular vehicle that I was interested in. They sorta blew me off and said they had daily tours a 4PM and that was it. My 14 year old son wanted to check out the cars so I adjusted our departure time from FL to get there in time, and we did the tour. It was 20 minutes, and pretty crappy. I was put off by them not letting me look at the particular vehicle that I wanted to buy. Beyond that I got a weird vibe from them even during the tour, and they seem to be a bit shady just from my interaction with them. They do have some cars that look really nice though. If you decide to go with them do a thorough check on the vehicle you decide to buy. Buyer beware. I imported my Delica with help from a one man shop in London, Ontario Canada, and it was awesome. My latest was a purchase from a guy who imports stuff, and flips em. It was pretty good dealing with him, but the car isn't as nice as he said it was, but it's not terrible. I guess I had a better experience when not every swingin dick was importing cars 7 years ago, as now it's a bit of the wild West when it comes to JDM imports.
