My father in law gave me this as part of him cleaning out the garage.  It seems like a quality tool, but I have no idea how it would be useful to me.

What do you use this for?

Bleeding tough brakes and clutches.

Can be useful for testing vacuum powered stuff, especially distributor advance units.

Keep it, for sure.

Helps bleed clutches and brakes. Should have some sort of reservoir inline with the hose for catching fluid.

Don't think they came with a fluid cup but you could make one easily enough or use a HF one.

It's a higher quality version of a common Mityvac.

Works well on the vacuum operated diaphragms that are/were used in automotive HVAC systems.

I have one. I'm not sure I've ever used it.

Esential if you own an old German car with vacuum everything. I also use mine to start a siphon when draining gas. Saves the fun mouthwash.
