One of my neighbors has a 2001 Aurora with a 4.0l V8 that was diagnosed by someone else as having a broken timing chain. I haven't had a chance to check it out myself yet, but if its true the engine is wiped out, correct?
I know the Caddy N* is interference, but the Olds version has smaller bores, lower compression and different heads. Is there even the slightest chance that those changes add up to making it non-interference?
Thanks.
The best thing to do with an Aurora is...is...
Mom always said, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." For once in my life, I'll follow that advice.
I drove one once when I was looking for a car. It was cheap, and really in good shape. Everything seemed to work, and it sounded really good. But what an underwhelming pig of a car.
All I really know about the N* is that they all lose head gaskets eventually, because the studs pull out of the block, but the 4.0 is apparently somewhat less prone to this. I'd be very, very surprised if it's not an interference design.

In the words of Pink Floyd, you better run.
That is one berked engine, and then the timing chain broke.

my feeling is that every V8 Aurora ever built should be killed with a lot of really hot fire..
Damn.. I suddenly feel the urge to shove one of these into my Camaro thanks to all the high praise here.
