If not you should be. And everybody else too. So far the weather outlook is looking great. It's been busy all week out there so it's going to be big on Saturday!!

Sadly we won't have any staffers there, as we'll be at Monterey. All of the events there take up a bunch of manpower.

Indeed, it seems like an event that personifies some of the themes present in this publication. It doesn't get much more grassroots that 40K car enthusiasts converging on a public street and creating the most glorius traffic jam of a car show on earth. Not much racing though so it is probably more suited to the Classic Motorsports side of things. Muscle and drag cars are highly represented, but there is always a decent smattering of sportscars in the mix as well for fans of smaller cars.
I will be there (as always). I'll probably do a couple laps in my Camaro in the morning and then put a lot of miles on my feet checking out all the cars in the Royal Oak and Birmingham stretch.
Hey now Zib, don't sell yourself short, ask for a cool hat or a work shirt.
David, what are the minimum pic res requirements?
Anyone not there missed out on a beautiful day and so many cars it hardly seems possible. I took a variety of pics to share, so here is a link.

Sorry, but I'm having a hard time seeing anything 'grassroots' about Monterey. Classic Motorsports, perhaps, but Grassroots, no. Woodward Ave was as 'grassroots' as it gets in the mid 60's to early 70's. The celebration of the culture that grew out of that isn't any less significant, than that at Monterey. But then I'm not the editor or publisher of a major magazine, so what do I know. Heck, I used to occasionally enjoy David E. Davis, before he was a pompous ass.
Unfortunately, Woodward isn't too much about sports cars--it's all about American muscle cars. I visited last year, and drove thru this year in my Miata. I was somewhat out of place.
There are some imports and some older than WWII, but not much.
If Detroit would spend some money and make the fairgrounds into more of a venue during this weekend, it would help. Maybe a drag strip and an autocross course. I think this would generate even more interest (is that possible?) and get some other types of cars out there. Mazda should buy the fairgrounds and piss off the D3.

Don't forget they have another magazine called Classic Motorsports....
When I lived in Detroit I loved Woodward. The crowds are a downer, but there's an awesome variety of machinery. Sure, you'll see Chevelles and Bel Airs until your eyes bleed, but if you look, there's still some terrific variety.
You can't put a million (two commas, six zeroes—that's a lot of cars.) cars in one town and not have some real oddballs in the mix.

While it's true that muscle cars make up the lions share of the crowd, there really are a lot of sportscars around as well. I even inadvertantly caught a Miata in one of my photos this year, and saw several cruising around. I was actually surprised by how many Porsches I saw this year, as I only recall seeing one last year. There are always a few MGs and Triumphs in the mix as well, and this year was no different. Also, there is more to motorsports than sportscars. Of course, I like seeing all the Corvettes, Camaros and Mustangs, so I wouldn't be disapointed anyway.
If anyone had bothered to click on my photo link they would have seen a couple MGs, some Mercedes, a Volvo, a Jaguar, among others. So, it isn't that hard to find cars that aren't of the American muscle variety.
Another interesting thing, I got to sit in a Smart at their display. Those things are very roomy for the two passengers. Much more so than a typical sedan.
Yeah, there are many american muscle cars at Woodward but there are tons of interesting cars as well. I'm there every year in my mini and I always see a few Isetta's, at least one Fiat 500 and tons of MG's, jags and other British cars. I'm a little dissapointed there is no coverage in GRM as well. Heck, a few years ago when I lived just a stones throw and a half I offered up my finished basement (2 BR, full back) and use of my kitched for free if GRM was coming up. Not even a response Anyway, I suppose the worlds largest gathering of cars in one place isn't enough of a draw..........
BTW, when was David E NOT a pompass ass?

If it makes you feel any better, I was wearing my Classic Motorsports hat while in Monterey this weekend. I was at Woodward a few years ago, and it was very cool.
