it's all about marketing.. if you are marketable, you can get sponsors. doesn't matter if you can actually win, as long as you look good on camera after the race with the primary sponsors logo on your fire suit and the label of your secondary sponsor's soft drink facing the camera when you take a big gulp right before the interview starts.. it's been that way since i started watching racing on tv in the late 80's- even the swamp buggy guys on TNN did that stuff..
