Because holy f*** this seems like a a lot for your money. I know GM is famous for its model year end incentives and aggressive discounting but this is a silly amount of car for $18k (the price of a used Accord or 6).

Wonder if that price includes incentives most people wouldn't qualify for?

There was just a thread about these cars. They are surprisingly good. I had one as a rental a while back and it was very competent!

I sent the stealer an e-mail asking exactly that. According to the listing there's $3000 customer cash and a GM model year-end discount included. We'll find out, but if that's legit, I may buy a new domestic daily for the first time ever...if they'll also do 0% financing on that price, holy hell.

It's not bad, but like most GMs is let down by a lack of attention to details in the interior. When I test drove one I was impressed by the overall handling and the low levels of NVH (although the engine doesn't sound great revved). Fit and finish + seat quality was well behind the Accord I wound up with.

It's like GM just can't get past rental grade.

I liked everything about the rental I drove except the transmission. Hated it. Had a mind of its own when it came to upshifting. Oh, and the Bluetooth wouldn't play nice with my phone. It would connect just fine, but when I was navigating with my phone and the voice came on to provide instructions, the first couple of seconds of audio were cut off before the sound would come out of the stereo. Honestly, I'd take the used Mazda6.

I guess one complaint I had of the car was the engine auto-stop "feature" It really bugged me at stop signs and in parking lots.

If you can get out the door for less than $20k then I would say it is a steal. If you need a car that is.

Both My and SWMBO DD are GM - hers: a 2010 Terrain, Mine: a 2014 Cruze. She got the upgraded interior, Mine is a step above base.

In both cases, fit and finish is great. For the $, we got more than the competition offered, and have had very little drama with regards to reliability. Overall, we couldnt have asked for better deals.

She loves her Terrain, and in a few years, it will probably be replaced with another Terrain. My only complaint is that I bought my Cruze for the turbo and manual. Im beginning to wish I wouldve looked at a Malibu, for size. If its just me, I dont care, I feel like I fit fine. But, you put another adult in the Cruze, and you feel a bit tight. A 3rd person? Getting in and out seems like a skit in fast forward from Benny Hill with Yackety Sax in the background. Also, I wouldnt feel great driving a client around in it. A Malibu would feel a bit more...I dunno...grown up?

My point is, I feel like the General has come miles from where it was 15 years ago...light years even. Theyre right on par with Honda, Mazda, and Toyota. NVH is great, reliability is great. I would be willing to argue that cockpit design seems a bit unimaginative, but is definitely liveable.

Nissan probably has the nicest of the mainstream brands IMHO. The Altima I drove this time last year as a rental blew my mind from a comfort and layout perspective.

Just heard back from the dealer, turns out the actual price everyone qualifies for is about $21k. Which isn't terrible, but a Mazda6 Touring with the stick is also about $20k after normal incentives so that makes the proposition much less interesting.

In reply to pointofdeparture:

When the "Holy crap they are giving away Cruze 5-doors" thread came up here a few months ago, I found that to be the case as well. It was a nice car, and they were selling them for a relatively decent price, but it was nowhere near "I can't believe how cheap this is."

2017 Malibu LT currently has 20% off MSRP. Don't know if any additional discounts are applicable like 0% or dealer markdowns. They usually aren't but wouldn't hurt to ask.

I worked with a guy who got a 48month lease on a cruze sedan for $75/month with - 12k mi/yr, not a whole lot down. It was a '14 at the end of '15, so the incentives were astronomical...

Do they have Trifecta tunes for these? That should cure some of what ails it.

That is a common feature on many/most new cars. I have heard that it can be turned off. Others have said, "you get used to it."

Probably. Theyre getting around 40 extra ponies (getting near 200whp) out of the stock 1.4t mill with a trifecta tune and some light mods to the stock intake manifold.
