My KEP adapter plate and flywheel are bolted to the EJ22. I am installing the clutch, today's project and get the engine bolted into the car.
The clutch face surface of the flywheel seems awful shinny, the instructions with the KEP kit state to clean it with lacquer thinner. Done, but its still looks a bit shinny for my taste.
Whats the hive's thoughts break the surface or install as is ?
About the project, remove 1600 cc ACVW with unknown build (claimed to be some Hot Build) from bug based Kelmark GT and install EJ22. Guesstimating 2X on HP and real non smelly heat when done.
Thanks,
Steve

I would scuff it with a roloc disk myself

Its been unshinnyfied(sp?) Could not make myself put it together when it looked like a glazed rotor.
Leave it alone.
Annectodal, but I scuffed a flywheel on a 22R once. It grabbed/chattered after that. Next clutch (damn things only last like 150K miles), had the plate machined smooth and left it alone. No more grabbing/chattering.
I'm curious if you scuffed it, would it just be shiny again in a couple hundred miles?

I'd trust KEP to deliver a flywheel with a suitable finish on it. Whizzy wheeling is for doing quick and dirty clutch jobs on beaters.
I ran a KEP adapter in my beetle with a Mazda 12A. The flywheel was a bright fresh machined surface as you describe and I installed it as such. No issues with clutch break in and it grabbed hard enough to rip the friction material right off the disc on a 7000rpm flat shift

Thank you. Saved me the trouble of finding a pic.
Don't scuff it. Rolock discs will take off way more than you think and you'll never get an even finish by hand.
Leave it alone, I had the same adapter on my frankenfiat to twin turbo ej20. It worked fine.

Machined smooth and glazed/shiny are completely different surfaces.
Like mentioned, I would scuff it. but if you didn't have chatter before, then just leave it alone if you're worried about it.
A shiny flywheel indicates a happy flywheel
As long as there are no blue spots or cracks, leave it alone.
Machining a flywheel can result in problems with the clutch performance.
Best to replace the flywheel.
