Goldstone 6.507@224
In reply to Ranger50 :
If Ned Dunphy lasts and maintains his pace, I don't think Goldstone can realistically catch him. Dunphy has cracked off a bunch of 6.20s in testing and did a 6.18 yesterday, while Goldstone has done a 6.53 yesterday and a 6.507 today. I think his car has only gone as fast as 6.40s. Dave Schroeder only managed a 6.784 yesterday as well, which makes it mathematically tough to catch Dunphy, again, unless he has a really slow day or drops out. And Schroeder's car seems to come undone fairly frequently (turns out huge mountain motors with 5 stages of nitrous are a bit of a time bomb).
I also saw where Blasphemi did a monster wheelie today. The car is working much better now with the chassis and driveline improvements. He said that the old chassis setup, the front had like 4 inches of total travel, up and down, and the rear was basically rigid. Every time he shifted gears, it spun the tires and he said it basically would spin all the way through 4th at the big end of the track because the car just did not transfer any weight.

that is an awesome photo! two gassers, one with a gold flake roof standing on the back bumper? love it
Finnegan was off the pace today, so he has given up first place at least. I've been watching the live feed both days and I think I'll go to Milan on Thursday to have a look.
Ranger50 said:Heard the viper is out. Finnegan left Indy about 3am ish.
I know they were having some valvetrain issues Day One with the Viper, and had to put some lifters in it. He said on Tom Bailey's channel (which is covering it, even though Tom isn't running or even there) that they found some metal in the oil the morning of Day 2 but thought it was residual from the lifter failure. I wonder if it really went deeper.
I also heard that Alan Whittaker (green first-gen Monte Carlo with Steve Morris power) dropped out for "medical reasons". Hopefully everything is alright, because he seems like a really nice guy in any of the interviews I've seen.
Sounds like right now, my call about Goldstone winning it was right. Schroeder and Dunphy are out, and Alex Taylor and the others in Ultimate Iron are about 3 tenths off of Goldstone's average currently.
Video of Goldstone making his pass, definitely huffing water out of the passenger's side. He said in yesterday's video that it was losing water somewhere, so either a cracked block or a bad head gasket. He mentioned that this is the backup motor for the car, and that they've always had issues with this engine. He also mentioned that over the offseason he is building a new car, and the Javelin will still be around, but the C1 Corvette he is building will be the new big stick for Drag Week.

Replacing both heads. Engine has to come out to do that.

Yep, saw the photos.
Puddy46 said:Good lord, that's commitment. I applaud the efforts.
No commitment is wrenching until 2 or 3 am, which is 12 hrs later than the track closed, then driving hitting the second checkpoint at 8am. Picking up everyone's orders for the next day, and missing your run group entirely and having to make passes in the all run group that has minimal prep.... In other words, be Mike Finnegan and Tony Angelo.
Recap from todays adventure....
Both ran personal bests. Explorer @ 12.53 and the mustang @ 12.79. Ex probably should have ran faster given I removed 300# of rear seats in 40-ish minutes at the track. Drive after the track was slow and leisurely heading east towards Milan from the west side. It was glorious to sleep in my own bed last night. Hope to push the explorer to the 12.2 it should run.
Barring any emergencies at home, I'm planning on heading up to National Trail to spectate tomorrow. I'll make sure to wear a GRM t-shirt so I'll be easier to notice
New personal best in the E36 M3 air here.
Changed out the factory OEM tune for something I brewed up while at work. Since the internet is E36 M3 here, drive to the loves truck stop out at 23, bought some weefee time, and wrote the calibration. 60' was 2 tenths better but it wheelhopped like a mofo.
One and done for me and soon on the way to Columbus!
From the Sick The Mag Facebook page:
"Bryant Goldstone has thrashed through a sleepless night to replace a torched head on his Javelin and he finally got on track at 3pm here at day four of Drag Week. It’s a loose run but by our calculations this 7.111 gives him a 6.833 average, while Alex Taylor’s earlier 6.799 gives her a 6.850. There’s one day to go and it’s game on!"
