Pulling a tight radius turn w/ a spooled rear end and tires that didn't wanna slip?

Plus springy balloon tires and probably no real rear suspension

Wow...crazy how the ripples in the pavement launched the rear, but I guess as others have said, minimal suspension and springy balloon tires...

I watched an Austin delivery van drag car do much the same. It had the same engine and rear tires as above, hit a couple bumps and it bounced it's way right off the track. Sort of a PIO in a way (Pilot Induced Oscillation).

Also, the driver normally drives on the rear wheels only in a straight line, let alone 4 wheels down and trying to turn. Also-also; think the crazy rear weight bias helped much?

The Hemi Under Glass was a series of exhibition cars. They were built for every model year from 1965- 1975 (and I am pretty sure multiples were built of many). There were also many tribute cars built, including a '67 built by Riggles. The car rolled in that video was the original '69, not a tribute. Riggles has purchased another body to repair. That could have ended VERY badly.

This, one of the early ones was at Mecum I believe last year...neat cars.

You know what I just noticed? When they are doing the beauty shots of the car, and describing it, they mention the engine is visible under the rear glass. When they pan to the engine under the rear glass, you can see the roof damage meaning they did this shot after the roll over. I wonder why they didn't shoot that stuff before?

Wow.

Yeah, so some window nets would be a great investment.

Kudos to anyone who can remember to grab the harness straps. I can't imagine. Wasn't there an open wheel crash a few years back where the wheels broke off and the driver was still cranking away at the wheel?

Good episode - awful to lose that car. I saw it (or one just like it) in person.

Yeah, that hurt to watch. That sure is a sturdy roll cage, however.

it should also be noted the car only rolled once, the edit makes it seem like it went over 3-4 times, probably for dramatics.

The only reason i would think they wouldnt use the drag strip is that once on the rear wheels steering becomes difficult, even with cutter brakes, and they might have been worried about it going off center into the wall so they used the circle track as a big open area, it just wasnt quite long enough.

I also dont know much about old school solid front axle set ups like this thing has but i imagine that a solid front axle on leaf springs with solid rear suspension and balloon tires doesnt handle well in any situation. it also looks like its already starting to get sideways and he is countersteering leading up to the roll, from what i saw i dont think that he just turned too sharp, it looked like he was going slow enough that he could of when up on the bank with less steering input to get more braking room had he been in control of the car. my guess is that the bumps unsettled the car and it was already going before he could correct it.

E36 M3 happens though, glad to see they where ok and that the car will more then likely be brought back into its former glory. its nice to see these old school one-off cars still in action.

That car routinely makes long wheelstanding passes up and down The dragstrip. Whatever the real reason I don't believe the dragstrip was too narrow

I was trying to remember what that one sold for. It wasn't as much as I expected, but well into the "If you have to ask . . . " territory.

It made CBS Nightly News tonight. I withhold further comment about CBS News.

Except to say that I had a 'Cuda Formula S with that same, lovely bronze color. I think my black stripes went down the middle rather than one on either side. I'll look for a picture. I think the only one I have is in a frame.
