i know ive seen one, but i cant remember what car it was...
a heatshield that goes around the oxygen sensor, which is held in place when the sensor is tightened down to the bung.
need one. cant find. know its out there

seems like a pretty easy thing to fab up. Use a coke can, or a cambell's soup can, drill the appropriate size hole in the base, cut / bend where necessary, and Robert's your father's brother!
But honestly, I've never had a car with a heat shield for an o2 sensor before. Sorry.
I guess it could better be described as a cold shield, as I think much of the point is to keep it hot and out of the wind. Lots of cars have them welded on permanent like. Great idea though bill.
I'm picturing a used can of Red Bull or V8 juice. Cut and modified as needed.
Maybe one of those 5-hour Energy cans?
I'm quite sure this isn't exactly what you are looking for, but e30 bmw sensors have a clip on shield around their sensors:
I have seen a couple variations on this, but most look fairly similar to the example above. It does sound fairly easy to make something custom to suit your exact needs, but if you stumble across any older bimmers take a look.
Look at Chrysler PT Cruiser outer tie rods, they used a heat shield much like you are describing.
Take a look at number four.

Just remembered, look at Mitsubishi Galant's from mid 2K's on up. I seem to remember someone having an issue working around the shield.
