I searched but couldn't find any forum topics about it so I'll just ask, has there ever been any discussion of adding a rallycross to the 20xx challenge?
Just a thought I had that seemed like it could be fun. Even though I don't foresee being able to compete any time soon it would be neat to vicariously flog a challenge car through some dirt and/or gravel.
Thoughts/opinions?

As much as I love the idea of flogging a car around in the dirt too some of the cars are finished to such a nice standard it would be a shame to subject them to the abuse. Its also hard enough to make a car that can really perform well at 2 events (drag and autox) its a whole new layer of complexity/expense to make a car able to be switched over for rallycross.
I've tried to talk the BABE rally folks into ending the event with a rallycross. 1 week of flogging your beater on the highways only to end by flogging it in the dirt. Must still be running/driving at the end of the rallycross to be considered for overall contention for the win :)
I like the idea. It would force people to make the cars a little more durable.

My guess is it would add another level of logistics so as to be impractical. I can hear Tim now, "maybe... providing you're volunteering to organize the whole thing..."

It's been discussed, though I can't remember the thread...
Plus then we need another day to do the dirt runs, a location with adequate pits, bathrooms for all and sundry, insurance for a rallycross.....and on and on.
I'm not against it but it would be a logistical nightmare
Replace the drags with rally? The drag times are silly fast already.

yes, reinvention is necessary to keep things refreshing
and that would be awesome. lol
Drags are too fun :)
I'd be happy to rallyx, but at that point, I'd say the concours is what should go. Or I wouldn't object to some club putting on a rallyx nearby on Sunday, and making sure to publicize it for any Challengers crazy enough to beat on their heavily detailed cars.
As a three-time veteran, though, I kind of like it the way it is.
don't see the format of the challenge changing anytime soon.

I like the concours, personally. It's kind of nice to see that people aren't just bringing boosted E36 M3boxes to the event, but having to spend time prepping an engineering for quality. Also shows what you can REALLY do for two grand.

The drags are necessary to add legitimacy to the general public who don't understand GRM, road racing, or autox.
In some ways they are a more legitimate comparison of machines. Autox layouts are different every time, and thoroughly dependent on driver. The 1/4 mile (and the trap speed) are more universal measurements.
Wouldn't a good Rallye car be a crappy Auto-X car, and versa visa?
The concours portion generates attractive cars that will look good in the magazine.
The challenge wouldn't serve a purpose to the magazine if the cars all looked like lemons/chumpcar racers.
Run the handling portion true rallycross style, with part on the pavement and part on the dirt. Satisfy the autocross and the rallycross lovers at the same time.

i know i shouldn't, but i can't resist.
so plance, when they add rallycross you'll build a car and compete, right? doesn't your arm get tired from throwing stones at the challenge from so far away from Gainesville?
i expect a hostile reply.
Bring it, bitches.
