Her coworker is trying to sell her car. I'm the car guy so she asked me. I'm not good at selling without losing a bundle so I'll ask the experts.
Her text;
How much wld u sell a 2006 mazda four door, 121000 miles with 3 dents and trunk is battered and needs pcv hose, right wheel bearing and clutch is going ut and third gear is out?

I entered the car into Edmunds, guessing at options and color with "Rough" condition and it came in at about $2700. Personally, that seems high to me... but they say normal Private Party value is about $6000.
Good luck - you're between a rock and a hard place... sometimes it sucks being the resident "car guy"...
Sounds like it's been well maintained
$500 or scrap price, whichever is higher.
I'm assuming it is a Mazda 3?
Yeah silver 3. Car is beat, she doesn't look behind her when she backs up and has backed over her own son.
This is also the woman who quit work the day before the Mayan apocalypse and had to beg for her job back.
It sounds like a rough condition car that needs a Trans, clutch, wheelbearing or ~1800-2000 worth of work to normal people. I would think $750-1000 would be max value considering PP is $6000 in good condition.

I think I just startled one of our cats - they're not used to me keeling over with laughter this early in the morning.
I would say $500-$1000 (depending on the shape of the interior which from the rest of the car sounds like it will be horrible).

She obviously doesn't care about the vehicle. Tell her "twelve grand" and let her flounder.
Is it the 2.0L? Sounds like Miata engine donor to me. I'm revising my price estimate to $250 OBO
Wife says she thinks she'll get 3k.
Tell her good luck with that

yeah, if she provides a blerjerb administration plan with total value of $2500. that car has been horse-berkeleyed and is worth $500.
She probably will get $3k at the dealership that charges $5k too much with 15% interest and has loud comercials.
I figure she's the type of person that will do everything wrong and still come out on top. She'll probably get 3k and then tell me I'm an idiot and know nothing about cars.

You entered what into Edmunds? Mazda3, Mazda5, Mazda6, etc? or did you just enter Mazda 4 door, cause that's what is for sale here
Mazda 6 - for some reason, I read the OP and thought it read that... Oddly enough, a 3 has similar value when similar data is input.
My advice, Nick - plead the 5th. No good will come from answering this question.
I would distance myself from this situation before you head down a rabbit hole of "help" which ends with you getting blamed that her new car should not need oil changes more than once a year.
Yep, berkeley all that. Don't tell her anything, tell her that you only know about really good deals and you'd suggest taking the car to Carmax for valuation.

Nothing good can come from trying to help her. You will be a jerk, no matter what happens. Carmax will probably either ask her to leave or offer scrap price.
