Thud.
Skid.
Didn't sound like it happened within sight of us, but someone's day just took a turn for the worse.
Hopefully everyone's okay.

I was next to a car that target fixated on me instead of the line of stopped cars in front of them. The 40mph to zero boom was violent enough to shake my 2 ton squad car.
Someone rear ended a landscaping trailer about 100' from my bedroom a few weeks ago. It sounded like a bomb went off. Luckily nobody was injured. Scared the crap out of my wife and I though.
In the fall a trailer of mulch broke apart in front of my house; it made the weirdest noise that I won't attempt to put into written word. But it definitely had a "poof" in it. Also, lots of free mulch...

In that order?
Had that one happen once. Stopped at a light with enough of an opening for a lady in an SUV to pull out of the gas station in front of me. She wasn't paying attention/couldn't see. Pulled out and lightly t-boned an early Tundra.
Gave the Tundra enough of a moment that they did a 270 spin into the next lane and came to a stop. Luckily no one else got hit.
That happened to me as well. I rushed outside to find a car flipped over in the front yard of a neighbor. By the time I saw it, several cop cars rushed onto the scene. I figured they had it handled.
A speeding driver did not negotiate the slight curve approaching my house in the middle of the night. Tremendous crashing sound bringing us out of a deep sleep. The concrete foundation blocks prevented the skid.
That's a throwback "Have you seen my shoes? berk it, I'm going out without shoes" - Dane Cook and language warning.

Extra depreciated.
Perfect for the GRM crew!
Growing up, our house was about 100 yards from the only traffic light on about eight miles of highway. We would regularly hear skidding tires, followed by the crash. Ours was about the only house near there, so we would call it in, then go back to what we were doing.
I vividly remember the time an exceptionally loud crash preceded the skidding.
Altamonte Springs, FL. It's grown up massively since then. Not one building in the photo was there then.
Our house was on Park Place.
One day when we were living in Hawaii were headed to the bridge on Keolu Blvd where we used to fish. There was a load boom just before we got there.........it sounded like someone dropped an 55 gallons drum from 10,000 feet.
A Corvette had lost control and the back end hit a mailbox............the rear end was floating in the river down below.

It's 25 mph through our entire neighborhood. We've had several wrecks within sight of the house–sadly, one fatal.

That rough! They basically live on a state route and a cross road that is in the middle of a dip.
We live about 1200' from a freeway. Close enough to hear it clearly but not be overwhelming. One night I had the bedroom windows open and heard screeching then a series of booms as a car tumbled over ... and over .. and over. I lost count. Then after the booms a shattering noise that went on for far longer than seemed possible. I had a lot of trouble getting to sleep that night! And there was nothing in the news the next couple of days so I think (hope) the people were ok.
My first full time job was just off a 4-lane surface artery, right at the middle of a long straight section that formed the top of a busy T intersection.
We couldn't easily see the road but just about every day we'd hear something. As soon as the tire screech started, somebody would grab the phone and dial 9-1 and wait for the bang before adding the second one.
Working near that intersection unfortunately cured me of ever wanting a street bike.

During my recent trip to FL, I was taught 25 MPH translates to 50 MPH in Floridian-speak. At least according to my cousin (53 year Florida born and raised).
With the amount of miles I drive, I've seen more accidents than I can honestly remember...
Few things can cause an accident faster than a police cruiser parked along a busy highway during rush-hour. It's seriously dangerous when they do that. Fortunately, PA seems to understand that and troopers are rarely seen during rush-hour.
I have witnessed a number of accidents. That last one I saw was about 9 months ago. I was sitting at a red light and some idiot comes along and just runs it like it was green.
Crossing traffic was busy so he got T-Boned right in front of me. Loud noise of course. Plus all the airbags went off in both vehicles. No one looked injured, no roll-over happened, so I just called the cops, told the operator what happened and who caused it, then left.
One I saw about 15 years ago involved a fire truck with siren trying to bully people to cross a red light of a very busy 3 lane crossroad. Crossing traffic was not stopping. No one was stupid enough to move so the fireman just kept on blaring the horn and siren. Finally one lady in a van full of kids panicked and crossed the red light. Of course the van was T-Boned and flipped over. I was amazed at how little speed was needed to flip that van. It took all my self control to not flip off the firetruck driver and call him something nasty. The firemen stopped to help - I guess the original emergency was not all that important...
I saw the aftermath of a few other red light running collisions recently as well. One ended up with a flipped over van and the other a flipped over pickup truck.
Red light running is rampant in Houston. I see people running full reds all the time. Green light traffic is having to hit their brakes to avoid them. Its really scary and crazy.
The last one I saw was a Honda Civic plowing into the back of a broken down car on the Cooper River Bridge. No brakes, no swerve, just drove into the back left corner of it at 55+ mph, then hit the concrete wall and barrel rolled to a stop. I was 200 yards in front of them when it happened so no safe way to stop and help. I did call it in though.
