I was thinking about selling my old e30.

well before i even make a decision, someone sees it and makes me a very reasonable offer. well I let him look at it today and sold it.

my new e30 is better in almost every way and has taken over DD duty and the old one had a few problems i didn't feel like fixing. it was a smart decision. it freed up parking space and insurance and money to help the new one.

The thing is, it just feels off/wrong somehow. like it was supposed to turn out different or something. has this happened to you guys(and gals)? am I going to be looking back and wishing that I had tried harder to save it?

Life is full of decisions and compromises.  You kept the better E30 and made you life less complicated.  If you regret this later, you will be suffering from delusions and/or wishful thinking.  At any given time, make the best decision for you based on the situation and don't second guess yourself.  Makes life easier... enlightened

It's always hard getting rid of your first car.

You just shot Ol' Yeller in the face. Sure you can get another dog, but it ain't Ol' Yeller. This is why I never sell vehicles. I fall way to in love with them, warts and all.

People ask me all the time when I'm going to sell the Murdercycle and get a bigger bike. Never. I'd spend the rest of my life trying to get it back.

Maybe if you put a few things from the OG E30, like a shift nob, maybe it would inherent a bit of the old BMW'S soul.

I still should have my first corolla. And my dsm. And my first Mazda 3. Probably not the Taurus , that thing was a death trap. Killer ac though.

I traded my first car for a classic Mini. Then it came back. It's now sitting in my trailer, waiting for...something. But I have it.

Still own two of my first three cars, when I think about it.

My first car was a 1970 Fiat 124 Spider. It was a complete POS, but I loved it. Rust decimated it and it ended life cut in half to go into a dumpster. I bought an almost rust-free twin shortly afterward, restored it and kept it for over 20 years.

One day I was working on it and realized I had become bored with it. I rarely drove it, knew every bolt on it and knew there was nothing left to learn. Sold it expecting to feel regret but still don't over a dozen years later.

They are just machines. They don't have feelings. They wear out or become outclassed by newer, better things.

I’ve been lugging the same miata around for 15 years and I hate that I’m so attached to it. I wish I had sold it 10 years ago. I’m sick of this sentimentality bullE36 M3 I’m stuck with and envy you for getting rid of your anchor. On the other hand I always feel like I will miss something when I sell it a lot more than I actually do.

I got sentimental about a car a few years ago. Coincidentally, it was also an E30: a 318is that my dad bought new in 1991 and gifted to me a few years later.

During his ownership, the car had not one but TWO timing case profile gasket failures (which meant two rebuilds in the engine) and one side impact. Then I wrecked the car at Tremblant. Had it fixed. Then a truck backed into it ... on the same side that had been hit and repaired twice. Had it repaired again. Kept dumping money into a doomed car because I was emotionally attached to it

Some time later, I realized that I hadn't driven the car on the street or track for maybe 1 year. It was time to let go. Life's too short and I needed the time, space, and money to get my vintage race car project going.

My first car wasn't anything cool, a 95 Nissan Sentra GXE manual, so I don't miss it that much. OTOH my first three cars all met their demise by being rear ended through no fault of my own so it's not like I had to sell them. It's probably for the best though since the 16 to 20 year old me had questionable aesthetic taste and modification strategy (read: I like stereos.)

Now the MS3 (car six) I have a deep attachment to after turning it into something that I enjoy greatly. I'm not sure that it is ever going to go away.

I had a -96 M-edition Miata that I really did not want to sell.  I really liked the feel of the car, and I had put a lot of money into it that I was never going to get back.  But since it was going to sit so decided to sell it.  About 3 weeks later a Hurricane hits our area and I was really glad I sold that car ... versus having it sitting in my yard under a fallen tree.  They are just things, let them go.
